They're pretty much harmless but do sting like a bee sting. I saw one once when I lived in Houston in some potting soil. There was a small one on the carpet in our living room in West Texas. I've never ßeen one in the 17 years I've lived in NM which is desert. There's nothing you can do to assure you'll never see another but you probably won't. Seeing one doesn't mean there are more.
There are many things in OK more scary than scorpions, like earthquakes and tornados. Scorpions are minor stuff.

@Kachina624@Ok thanks. We are all really freaked out by bugs and those scorpions look evil.I thought maybe he had a colony like ants or something. So you don't think scorpions travel in pairs or groups and that is good to know.We hated the thought that they were raising a family in his home.

There are,any different varieties of scorpions. While living in AZ., they sold a blacklight flashlight to detect scorpions.

Does the flashlight make them come out of hiding and where would you search a home for these hiding spots....like in your bed or under it?.....in your clothes?i

Call a pest control service and have them come out and spray around the house and that should get rid of them. For now. When they come back, do it again.
I HATE scorpions, and some people are highly allergic to them.

I live in Az too yes they can be a problem some of them make a noise some don't I have been here for 12yrs never saw one but if you live near a wash or bike path then some have problems. I think if you see one there maybe others. Exterminators can fix it. They know where to look. Do not leave shoes outside on the patio, I know someone did that & their son put his foot in a shoe & got bit. I would get someone out to look around it is worth the money to get someone to spray the house & yard. Never thought OK would have this problem.

I see them often , even though I have regular pest control, you really have to spray them directly to kill them since they are like little armored tanks. I have to spray them and then put a paper cup over it or it will skitter away and try to hide somwhere . They carry their tiny babies on their backs so smashing one with a shoe doesn't always work because the babies scatter and they are really small and hard to see. I am really freaked out by them. They can squeeze through an opening the thickness of a credit card so it can be quite a project to seal everything . They are looking for water and a food source ( bugs) so if you keep the bug population away, they will go elsewhere. My DS and his family live in Phoenix, and their neighborhood really has a problem with them. They see them in the house regularity and have had several close calls . None of us ever leave any shoes or clothing or towels etc, on the floor nor do we go barefoot. I've come close to stepping on one barefoot so now I always wear shoes.
ive hear that being stung by one, can be compared to being stabbed by a red hot poker that's been held in the fire.
I have all my furniture legs sitting in little glass bowls to prevent them from climbing on , as most stings occur lwhile laying or sitting on a sofa/ chair , I've heard

My daughter had one sitting on the top of her computer in her house. She lived in Sedona AZ. They had to have an exterminator come every month. When I went to visit, we were sitting on a step in front of the house, I looked to my left and there was one a foot away from me. It was Fall, month of October and she had a big pumpkin on the step. I picked up the pumpkin and dropped it on the scorpion. He was history, the pumpkin was okay... Didn't know Oklahoma had them.
I would get an exterminator just to be on the safe side.

We have scorpions, when our home was first built there were a lot more. Our exterminator comes every three months. I always check my shoes and don't walk around barefoot. I didn't know that Oklahoma had scorpions. They're common in desert areas.
