Re: STORES SEEM EMPTY

[ Edited ]

With the exception of stubborn inflation,  virtually every indicator shows that the overall economy is doing quite nicely.

Consumer Holiday Season spending growing 3-4% is a good, solid, reasonable rate.  Not too overheated.

Spending patterns are shifting due to inflation,  with consumers focusing their Holiday dollars on discounts and bargains.

Good news all around!

(I would love to see the facts, figures and statistics indicating that things are as bad as The Great Depression;  when unemployment rates reached 23%!)

Yes, good news indeed.  In addition to the good economics for store shopping,  the Travel industry is also doing well.  Up over 3% since last year along with jobs increased in that industry.  Alaska, Wyoming and New Hampshire benifiting the most from travel.

On a personal note, the last 2 weeks I have been going into our hotels/motels/Inns/B&B's (independent and National chains). I volunteer for a local fundraising event we are having here in town the day after Thanksgiving. Dropping off flyers for the event.  i have talked with them and all say they have been doing very well this year.  They are booked well for the end of year travelers.

So it is good to see the businesses doing so well.  Great news indeed.

Indeed.  And Thanksgiving air travel is the busiest ever.

Lots of highly beneficial spending and economic activity occurring.

No shortage of customers in my area. Stores have lots of people in them and they are buying. With the economy improving, inflation way down, seems people are in a buying mood. Good for them!

Ha! You must be following the manipulated data/talking points.

You're being manipulated every day on the regular, but go on with your usual insulting condescending comments.

Because twjwd.

More of your high intellect and amazing vocabulary. I guess we can add that to your two favorite words--obtuse and yick.

I am not seeing the slow down that has been mentioned. I was surprised at some of the stores that are listed as discount stores. The average household income of the Costco shopper is over $100,000 a year, Target, Kohls. These are not discount stores!!

I shop at open shopping centers, so today I went to Best Buy for a purchase, the store was not packed, but the salesman who was helping me with my purchase stated that it's been busy all morning. He was surprised, because it's before Thanksgiving. Well I went out because I saw that they were offering their Black Friday deals now. Also, to avoid the rush during the black Friday madness after Thanksgiving. Pretty much all of my other holiday shopping will be online, so no need to return to stores.

As I was leaving I had to pass Ulta, Kohls, Target, Lowes, Michael's etc. The lots were packed and this was around 11 or so.

This morning on the news, they showed a packed LAX, and basically the story was on how the holiday travel season has begun and how there is an uptick in travelers for this Thanksgivng Week.

Yes, inflation is way down. From a high of 9+% to 3.2% in October.

We wouldn't want the facts to get in the way of those still praying for a recession.

Just an observation for those who are out and about shopping during the day, during the week and seeing packed stores....

None of those people are at work. And if you observe their ages, I doubt they're all retirees.
