Our mall is very busy. Target and Walmart are also crowded, it's worse on the weekends. That's why I shop during the week.

I was in Kohl's this past Saturday. Lots of people were shopping and there was a back up in the checkout lines. Sunday my husband and I went to a movie theater that is located in a mall in the Atlanta area. When we were leaving we both noticed that the parking lot around the Macy's area was full. I am so happy to see that people are getting back to shopping in malls and local stores. It seems like the stores on the weekends are doing a good business. I love going to stores to do my shopping. I do not want to sit home in front of a computer to do all my shopping.

We have one grocery store in town. You can rarely find a parking space. Have to park in the store next to it. Husband hit the big mall today. He said it was pretty busy. Mall has four floors and all stores are open. It's the same as usual here.

More and more, people are shopping online.   I know I am,  and haven been in a store since the start of the pandemic.  I can get everything I need delivered to my door.

I did have to go to Walgreens for my annual flu and acovid vaccines as Amazon is not yet giving them.

@EastCoastGal.  I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

Stores aren't empty where I live, they're very busy any time I go shopping. Especially Marshalls/Home Goods.

There's none of the "rampant crime" either that so many posters here constantly talk about.

I don't go to malls, and malls aren't as popular as they used to be and that's been going on since long before the pandemic. Online shopping is easier for most people.

You really should share with us where you live so we might consider a move to safe surroundings--free from "rampant crime".

I've worked in Criminal Justice for over 20 years. I am very aware of what is going on in my community. I will always err on the side of caution because these thugs who will car jack a woman after pistol whipping her and stealing her handbag, phone, keys, etc. is very real.

So again, please do tell us your safe little area of the country that we might explore.

Yesterday Nordstrom had a few sales people just standing around...no customers or very few considering sales and holidays are close. I saw three police dogs with armed guards in my larger mall.

Yes, the grocery stores are busier because T'giving is first. Wegman's was already out of basics like cornbread (was going to freeze it to make stuffing next week). They ran out weeks ahead last year. Fried onions? Crushed pineapple for my sweet potato casserole? These items and others have been "gone" for 2 weeks. The answer is "they haven't been sent from the warehouse".

My Harris Teeter also has empty shelves for some T'giving items. Sam's and Costco are busier becuase they are less expensive. Kohl's, Marshalls and HomeGoods that were mentioned are all discount stores. They're always busier than mall stores here .

I think many people (and me) are going to reel it in with spending this year. Time will tell about the economy.

No shortage of customers in my area. Stores have lots of people in them and they are buying. With the economy improving, inflation way down, seems people are in a buying mood. Good for them and the businesses!

@magicmoodz   I live about 35 miles north of Atlanta. Yes Atlanta has their fair share of crime as do a lot of big cities. But where I live is considered very safe. Violent crime is extremely rare and certainly not rampant over the state of Georgia. I am 73. I go places by myself. If I want to go to the mall I go in the morning not at night. I am careful to be aware of my surroundings. If I need gas I go to Costco and there is an attendant and probably 20 people lined up there at any given time. Never have I been afraid just cautious. I refuse to be terrified to leave the confines of my home. I know that bad things can happen but I don't live in fear.

I think you nailed it. You live in a rural area. That is far different from living in the heart of a major metropolitan area. Even so, it sounds as if you are taking precautions to keep yourself out of harms way.

Here's an example:  I was going to buy tickets to a live theater performance earlier this week. But wait, 5 people were shot that day--one on the corner of the very theater I wanted to attend.

So much like you, I feel safe within the confines of my own home, but that really isn't the way I want to live.
