My last dental procedure was two cerec crowns in front.

at one point the dentist was pushing a tool deep into the gum line to set the crown and it was so painful the tears were running down my cheek.He said “sorry”and kept going.Numbing didn’t work very well that time.

I feel that this dentist does good work but he strikes me as “ rough “. I have poor genetics for teeth, so I’m always having things break down. DH on the other hand, never flossed a day in his life and goes to the dentist maybe every 7 years. Yet, has strong teeth and bones, still has every tooth in tact. Not Fair .😥

When I was kid, but we only saw a dentist when it was too late and the tooth needed to be pulled. Because of my parents neglect, I and my younger sister have spent endless hours in the dentist chair and thousands of dollars trying to keep the teeth we have left.

@Shanus   I have no dentist fear.  Maybe because my childhood dentist experience was only positive.  That is sad they would tie you down....cruel.

I have had  about 8 root canals....they are no big deal so do not worry. I just had Novocain for numbing. I have never used gas or anything like that. I like to be awake and follow what they are doing. 

Do do not worry. Everything will be fine❤️🙂

.       Shanus-I've had many root canals!! 😖   After they numb you,  which only takes a few seconds, the rest is no big deal.  Good luck. I wish you well. 💗

@Shanus Truly, if you go to a good endo, there is no pain during the procedure, which I haven't found to take much longer than a standard filling or a crown build-up. All the sedation is really not necessary. That said, there can be some potential for discomfort afterwards, Depending on the location of the tooth and the state of the gum, your gum can get sore and remain sore for a few days. Most often it's minor but sometimes can be uncomfortable. Be sure and regularly rinse with salt water after the procedure to help heal the gum. Of course, you do realize that after a root canal you'll probably need a crown on that tooth. My last root canal was uneventful, both during and after, and hoping yours will be too.

I have had several root canals done in my mouth so I'm very familiar and used to the procedure.  First off, you are very wise to have an endodontist do it.  I would never recommend a regular dentist perform a root canal no matter how good they say they perform them.  There's a high risk of failure when a regular dentist does it plus (and this is sad to say) but alot of  them want to perform root canals because it's an expensive procedure.  This  happened to me where a  dentist did a root canal and a few years later had to go to an oral surgeon and have my tooth pulled because it failed. Same thing  happened to a relative of mine.  An endo is a specialist and that's all they do day in and day out.  They are pros at the procedure so you will be in  good hands.  I guarantee the experience with the endodontist will be better than a  dentist.  I loved mine and wish she was my regular dentist because that's how good she is.  I never feel the needle and never experienced pain.  Just remember the endodontist really knows their stuff and your experience should be smooth.  And tell them when you get there its your first root canal.  They will try to ease your fears.  And the afterwards isn't too bad either.  Just a little sore.  My endodontist gives me 2 advil before I even get out of the chair and by the time I get home I'm fine.  Wishing you a fast and positive experience.

If you have a specialist do it the process is so much easier. Many dentists aren't even doing root canals anymore. I've had more than one done.

Back in July, I was waking up at night, with this throbbing pain on one side of my mouth. It was so bad that I would have to get up and take a pain reliever. In the morning, I would feel nothing the pain was only at night. (The Endontist explained this to me) Long story short, probably about two weeks after I started feeling the pain, I happen to be home during the work week and made an appointment to see my regular dentist. He did some testing and told me that he was afraid that I needed a root canal. He sent me out to an endontist who confirmed the diagnosis and I had the procedure. It was long but pain free. They numbed me up pretty well, and then I picked out a movie that I wanted to watch put on some headphones, and tried to ignore the dentist and the tech in my mouth. I have to reiterate it was pain free with just the Novocaine. I am not sure if this is always the case but it was also a two part procedure.

Earlier this year I had a crown performed on the same tooth that they had to perform the Root Canal on. Since I had just had the procedure done, after a month my regular dentist repaired the crown free of charge. The best part was since the root is now dead, my dentist did the procedure with no Novocaine. I felt nothing, as will you if you ever have to have any other work performed on that tooth.

I was that white knuckled child that gripped the chair from fear of THE NEEDLE every time I had to had a filling.  I wouldn't take the needle as a child.  

Procedures and tools are worlds better now.  I've learned to go somewhere else in my mind and I do fine-with novocaine!

I've had a root canal and it wasn't hard at all.  I'll come hold your hand.  You'll do fine!
