@BalletBabe wrote:I have an answering machine. I actually have voice mail through cable, but also have a machine. That does not stop them at all. For example. Today, got a call at 9:00 am, then around 10 am, then around 11:00 am. Then at 12:30. All from New Jersey. Finally at 12:30 I answered and of course they as for my hubby who passed away 6 months ago. I screamed in phone and said "I told you people that he passed and DO NOT CALL HERE AGAIN". Hung up on them. No calls after that, but I promise they will wait a few days and start again. None of the numbers can you call back on. Cable co said that they are coming from over seas and it just shows like they are in U.S. THey have no way to stop them.
I know it is a pain, but I may seriously change the number. If my hubby would have been able to afford his breathing medications here in the U.S. we would not have had to go to another country for them. But the money hungry Pharmacy companies could care less.
Please stop answering the phone
get a call blocker

I don't think changing your number will help. They have lists of viable phone numbers and routinely go through them, sometimes they group them for older people because they think they are more vulnerable.
Criminals do the same thing with credit cards, they get card numbers that are live and sell them online.

VErizon does not support this NoMore Robo capability so since they are the largest provider of home land lines that leaves most of us unable to use this option.
The Do Not Call registry is a joke. THey have no way to enforce the law.

@Noel7 I agree with what your saying, however most calls I get they are asking for my husband. I think because he ordered his meds from over there. I might call the phone company to see what they think.
I might try being a Pizza place like OP said Yello????? You want 5 pizza's okay will that be with mushrooms and pepperoni?

@jackthebear I don't think you understand. I am not answering---but like today they were calling every hr. It only stopped after I answered and yelled at them. I am not going to shut the ringer off. If I have to do that , then why have a phone?
I have a call block feature. I already have 25 numbers on it. That don't work. THey just use another number. I have my phone blocked that you can't reach me unless your number shows. Again , that does not get rid of them.

@BalletBabe....do you really still need a landline? Is it worth the hassle? I want to get rid of ours, but DH wants to keep it. The scam calls are stressing me out.

@catwhisperer Do I need it? No, but I would be lost without it. I hate talking on my cell. It is part of my package with the cable company. Plus I like how the calls show on my TV when I am home.

@BalletBabe....well then, unfortunately, you will continue to be forced to endure the invasion of privacy from these idiots. It's truly a shame that we are paying for phone service and be subject to this invasion of privacy with little control over it. It's just not right.
