I just received an update from Consumer Reports that the phone companies are meeting to address this problem due to customer pressure. We'll see if they DO anything.
@BalletBabe My phone company lets me block numbers, perhaps your annoying call numbers could be blocked?
My cell phone gets spam calls, about one a day. At&T says cell spamming is increasing.

A few times, I answered the phone in a low, strange voice thinking it was a scammer ---- but it turned out to be a legitimate call. Sometimes, it's my doctors office, etc.
This morning I was in the shower - around 9AM - and the phone rang. When I checked, I knew it was a scam call. They didn't leave a message, but my answering machine registered "1" call. Well -- a couple of hours later, they called again, and I didn't answer.

I have the ability to block numbers, but I have about 25 on there now. That does not stop them, they just call using a different number.
I have no problems on my cell. No one ever asks for me , they ask for my hubby. I keep telling them that he passed and DO NOT CALL HERE AGAIN. They just don't care and you can tell they are from over seas, none of them speak very good English!
Just weird that this got so bad since my hubby passed.

That is a great idea. I am going to try that. Thank you!
I hope it works!! I found that after one or two calls, they get the message....I will not be talking to you!!!!

Seriously? They don't do anything with those complaints. The so-called Do Not Call List is a joke. Everyone in America is on it but the calls continue.
My telephone company has a recording on my line that says,"This number does not accept sales calls. If this is a sales call hang up now and put this number on your no call list.
If this is not a sales call, press 1." Only then does my phone ring. I rarely get sales calls; can't remember the last guy who was brave enough to press 1, in which case I would have verbally emasculated him.
I recently read that Congress MAY get serious about doing something about these calls. Of course they MAY NOT too.

I'm on Do Not Call also, it doesn't do a thing. The problem is it can't be proven. They use technology to hide their real phone number of origin.
GOOD NEWS:
The technology giants, including Google and several other big ones, are working together to use technology to fight the unwanted calls because they get them, too. They have joined together in the San Francisco Bay Area for this purpose.

I was told the reason they call anyway is that filing a complaint does nothing!

Right, because most calls can't be traced, see my post above.

Get an Answering Machine!! I have posted this before. You can set it at 1 or how many rings you want. I had my number unlisted and they still called. I ask once "how did you get my number" he said all he had was a piece of paper with numbers on and he had no clue who or where he was calling. With a machine when they call the machine picks up and gradually stop calling. I have very few now. If it someone you want to talk to just call them back.
