Retailers and deceptive sales

I don’t know how companies get away with this. I think there has to be some deceptive business practices laws they are breaking. Today I was looking online at a adjustable bed frame at Jcpennys. They have the gumption to charge over 3 grand for it then tell you to put a coupon code in for 65% off. So that takes it down to the price it is everywhere else and the normal price. No wonder this company is hurting. That is super deceptive. Do you guys think that is wrong?

I know all retailers do it but not to this degree. Kohl’s will raise something a couple dollars here and there. Their buy one get one half off are a huge ripoff. Just the other day the furniture I was looking at Macy’s and furniture my parents was looking at doubled in price.

How is it deceptive?

Just because you do not like their pricing strategy does not make it deceptive..

@ccassaday

A little off topic (I apologize!) but I haven't seen your threads/progress pics about the new house in a while....am I just missing them?

I really enjoyed them, as well as your decorating decisions and most of all, your enthusiasm!

Re: Retailers and deceptive sales

When I worked for Zales in the 80's when they had a sale they would do a markup before they would take a markdown. LOL!!! Not much of a sale.

I already know Penney's does that. You have to watch the prices there after the so called discounts.

It's hard to shop any place when you know they all have such huge markups on the merchandise they sell. If you have ever worked retail you already know all that.

I think that is a marketing strategy used all over (some are over the top with it like your JCP example) and I think they are hoping people won't notice and never research prices!

But yes, that might be a good reason they aren't doing well.

I think stores that succeed don't have as many of these pricing gimmicks but fair, honest and good pricing and value!

" That is super deceptive. "
A retailer sets a price for a product.
If you use a valid coupon you can get the same product from them for a lower price.
This happens with all sorts of products, even groceries!
How is this deceptive?

Re: Retailers and deceptive sales

I'm not sure if it is deciptive or not, but I wish places would just put the lowest price out there. Re: Kroger, you can download their coupons, use gas points if buying gas, save a little. Why not just give people the lowest price and I bet they would make as much money.

Wal mart savings catcher- have to download app, scan reciept, remember to get hubbys reciepts so I can scan those.  And no, it doesn't hurt me to do these things and I do love saving money.

Just my opinion of the price issues.

And yes, @ccassaday I have noticed some retialers marking thigs up right before having a sale. I don't think its right either.

The reason I think it’s deceltive at Pennies is because say that bed frame is not 3k anyware. Nobody charges that. So to make someone think that is the regular price is awful. Not even the Serta site charges that. The regular price without a sale is 1699. So how is it not deceltive to say it’s a 3k bed frame when it clearly isn’t.

Retailers can sell products for whatever they want.  Consumers can buy it or not.
