RETURNING, Dish TV equipment

My girl friend is moving, and has to return all hardware to DISH TV. Today she received the box for return and the instructions said be careful... she is expected to get on the roof, remove screws, and return the dish!  Does this sound right to those of you that have had DISH and returned the hardware?

No!  When we switched from Dish to Directv, we were told to only send back the inside tv boxes and remotes.  Surely, they don't expect people to now climb on rooftops and do a technicians job.  Seems like that could open them up to a ton of lawsuits if someone got hurt trying to do this.

Yeah, they don't want to make it easy, and they also want to charge you for it if you dn't send it back.  Did she tell them it was on the roof?  Somehow, I managed to get out of sending the dish back after my father died, but did send back the box.  Maybe they knew they couldn't charge me since I'm not responsible for my father's debts.

Actually, his was out in the yard, but I told them it was on the roof.  I couldn't send it back anyways; somebody stole it.  Probably stole it so they wouldn't have to get on their roof, LOL.

After reading again she said she has to remove the LNBF off the arm of the dish.  I have no idea what or where that is.

I had Direct TV and all I had to return were the boxes. The dish stayed on the roof for a couple of years until I had my roof redone and then we trashed it. Direct TV told us they don't want the dish back. Make sure she takes pictures of what she is sending back and keep all correspondence. CYA.

@cheriere We discontinued service with DISH over 2 yrs now. We had to send back the LNBF which is on the DISH outside, DISH receiver box-Hopper, Joey, remotes, smartcard that's in the receiver box. Ours was on a pole in the backyard. The rest was picked up by a guy that picks up things that can be recycyled.

We don't want anything on our roof. We now have an outdoor antenna on a pole.

We were told we would be charged if we did not return the items.

Another pic of LNBF

Thanks, she was widowed about 8 years ago and recently sold their winter home.  Sending back the equipment is the last thing to do before signing papers for the house.

DISH insisted they HAD to shut off service to the TV before they sent the box to her to pack up the equipment, so she has had no TV for a week,   and the closing on the house is not for another week!

Her days have been quite long with out tv...she has very minimal internet service watching TV on her phone is not easy.

Even when her husband was alive they did not have much internet at the house (she uses some tiny box that gives her service but does not amount to much).   I never understood why she did not get internet service for the 4-5 months she lived there but was not my concern, it just would not have worked for me.
