It all started when I decided to donate a jacket. Well, my husband said he knows he has jackets to donate. So we went through our coat closet and started to purge. We have quite a pile to donate.

Now my question - I have a white and black weave wool coat. I have always liked it. There is black wool trim that really gives it a striking look. One thing - it is a dressy coat. And I wonder is it really worth keeping. I am also donating my other coat that I have been wearing for dressy occasions. I really don't have many dressy occasions anymore. We are both retired and living quite a casual lifestyle.

Should I keep the coat? I will probably rarely or never use it. Is it worth keeping a coat "just in case"?

Now that youi have cleared out other stuff and made room ..

you might want to consider keeping it a bit longer .. you know

just in case !!!  It's only one ....

I think you should keep the one you really like and donate the other coat. Even if you don't think you'll ever wear it. You never know, an occasion could arise and you may regret not having that coat.

I think it is worth keeping items for dressy affairs.  When you do have such an affair, you will be glad of it.  I have a handbag and a couple of pairs of shoes (different colors) that I keep for the occasional dress-up event.

You are right BUT I was also shocked at how many coats I did have. It is a big closet and I bet 80% of the closet is filled with my coats. But you are right. What is one more. I can always get rid of the one or two of the coats that look alike. I bet I would never notice.

Thanks, Ladies - you are right. You just never know. And it is alot easier to get something out of my closet than trying to panic buy. Panic buying never seems to work out well for me.

Wow!  I would keep your coat.  In fact, begin wearing it now.  The more you wear it, the more compliments you'll receive, and you'll be glad that you kept it.  Sometimes 'dressy' coats and jackets can be worn casually.  It's a trend now-a-days.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

@drizzellla,And don't forget "denim and diamonds".  I bet that coat would be awesome with dark jeans for lunch with friends or dinner with DH.

I vote to keep the coat; doesn’t sound like something you’re likely to find on the rack now.

I appreciate your thoughts.

And Romary1 an ECBG - I should wear it. It really is a handsome coat. It is nice to not be so casual when you go out to eat.

And Redtop you are so right. I would never find a coat like it. It is such a nice wool and the lining is also a quality fabric. But what really makes it catch your eye is the asymmetrical black wool trim along the buttons to the collar. It is quite flattering.

Makes me wonder why I put it on the donate pile in the first place.

PS  - I just remembered, I let my girlfriend borrow it one time and she kept it for over a year. I had to ask her several times for it back.
