When I was a kid I remember my favorite indoor pastimes were paper dolls and coloring.  Does anyone remember paper dolls?

McCall's magazine had a paper doll in each issue.

I liked the sturdy Color Form ones with the peel and stick clothing.

I loved playing with Paper Dolls, Barbies, any kind of Doll and Stuffed Animals and I spent hours playing with fashion plates:

It's a kit with different plates that you mix and match different tops, middles, bottoms and patterns to get different outfits and looks.

You then put them in the holder, place a piece of paper over it and emboss it with a crayon or similar to get the outline and then you can use the other side to emboss different patterns or designs and then you remove and color it in....

I copied and pasted below a better discription, that was from the listing with the picture I posted above:

1. Choose which model's head and hairstyle you fancy
2. Select a top or blouse
3. Select a bottom (slacks, shorts, or skirt)
4. Slip a piece of paper over the plates but under the plate’s frame
5. Hold down the frame and rub over the plates with the crayon to get the outline of the figure
6. Turn over whichever plate(s) you like the texture on (there's all kinds of options, from plaid to flowers, etc.)
7. Use colored pencils to color the outfits and give them whatever unique design you prefer
8. Voila...you have just created your very own fashionista!

Yes...paper dolls !  We even progressed to drawing our own basic dolls and using flowers, petals, bark, etc to create accessories: billowing skirts with bows, big hats with flowers and leaves, etc.

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.
