Re: Part-time Job search VENT ...

It sounds like they want to do a phone interview.  Based on how that goes, they'll either hire you or have you come in for a second interview.

Are you sure you really want a job? You don't seem to be at all flexible and your criticisms seem to me to be very picky. They were making an effort to be polite and respectful to you.

I'd think that if you want to pursue this job you simply need to respond to the email and answer their questions. Right or wrong, they have their way of doing things and want to ensure you're available when they call and that the number listed on your resume is the best way to reach you at the time of the call. I don't see it as such a big deal.

Good grief, they just wanted to know the best time and way to reach you in order to set up an interview, whether that interview be on the phone, or a face-to-face.

It's nothing to get your panties in a twist over.

Sure I do.  But at this late stage in my life, compatibility is important to me --- specifically, styles of communicating.  If they wanted to set up a time to do a phone interview, then I would've expected the email to say so.  I never would've told them I was home all day and could be reached at any time.

This, IMHO, is a miscommunication.   Bad start ....

But, no worries.  I believe everything happens for a reason.  This company is huge, many employees, etc. .. been there, done that.

The other option I have is with a much smaller company and I will accept that job instead.

Thanks for your feedback.

I can't imagine what has the OP so upset.  Sounds like a gracious, professional way to handle the next step.  Agree with others...if this method upsets you, you're probably not the right fit for this company.

I doubt that she would be the right fit for any company.

Re: Part-time Job search VENT ...

I think you haven't worked at applied for a job in a very very long time.  That's exactly how it goes when you a apply online and many employers now only accept online applications.  No one has time to waste and the first two rounds of interviews are done by phone.  First the HR screeening interview and then the first interview with the hiring manager are by phone.  Only candidates are being considered for the job have a face to face.  Yes, they almost always verify the phone number and ask for when you want to be called so that you will be....prepared.  Most applicants acutally like.  Most people have a cell phone number and a land line number so they ask what number you want to be contacted on.  If an applicant knows that they have an interview on Thursday between 10am and 12noon (there's usually a window), that gives the applicant time to prepare for that interview.  To make sure the house is quiet, that there are no visitors or intrusions or barking dogs.  There won't be any distractions.
