Thank you so much for remembering me and My Melanie.  Sadly to say, Melanie went over the Rainbow Bridge 12-3-2025.  The last week had been very stressful.  She lost her hind legs, didn't want to eat and finally after five days refused water.  As a lot of pet owners know, it is very hard and sad.

I was going to have a Vet come to the house so she wouldn't be scared  going to the shelter.  The vet charged 860.00. It wasn't the shelter vet.  I am very low income, but was going to charge it so she could go in her own environment.

I was praying a lot for her and then the kind person who runs Silver Paws for low income seniors, said she would check in and see if the shelter Vet would come to my home  free of charge to me. The answer was yes, they would come together. That was so nice of them.  So Melenie went in peace in her own environment. I couldn't thank them enough.

Silver Paws took care of everything, so she was not stressed and just went to sleep peacefully in my arms on the sofa with candles burning. I did pay for her private ashes with a beautiful box I'm told and her name..

There was no charge to me to come to the home.Silver Paws took care of the bill.  Needless to say, I will donate a little to SP every month, so other Seniors can get help when needed.

My wonderful  other neighbor knowing my situation had given them her CC to pay for the  private ashes, which I couldn't believe someone would be so very very nice, because I didn't really know this neighbor. Just in passing and waving.  She has a big kind heart .  She has been checking in on me and bringing me meals.

The Vet was so very kind and told me she was also a neighbor who  lives in my neighborhood. I live on a circle that is a mile.

She said she remembers seeing me in earlier years, walking Melanie everyday before she went to work. Also, because she worked at the shelter for 20 years, they both remember when I adopted her in 2009.

Of course, I miss Melanie so very very much. I feel her presence in the house. I find myself when I walk in, saying Hi Mel Bel to her and sleep with her little sweater next to me like she always was in bed with me.  It is very, very hard as a lot of people  who lost their fir babies know. I can't believe she is gone,  but not forgotten. Life is empty without her, but neighbors I barely knew have come to my door to say hello and console me. We would wave when I walked Melanie.  I am going to volunteer once a month for the events Silver Paws has to raise money for Seniors and their pets. Also for the food bank.  Counsel of Aging is sending a nice lady once a week to converse with me  and see if everything is OK.

I get around alot and keep busy and active, but this week Im taking care of me, because it was a hard two weeks, up many nights or no sleep at all, because Mel was not able to sleep. I spent quite a few nights holding her wrapped in a blanket and just keeping her close and talking with her.

She rescued me and gave me a wonderful life. You love them so much and they are family.  My neighbor wants me to get a senior dog.  Maybe in time, but right now, I need to honor my Melanie.

I started a book when I first got her about what she ate, what she did everyday, her meds when she got older.  Where we would go. I did this because I was about 72 and if I passed before her, they would know her habits, meds, foods, etc.  So many pets that are adopted, no one knows their history, so the book would let them know everything about her.

OK, I talk alot in person, and I am writing alot here as if you were in front of me.

Ive been without heat for the last two days and it is cold.  Thank god, it happened after she passed. I finally got heat at 6 this evening. The man who owns the business was gone today, but got my message and came over when he got home from Tahoe.  I am one very fortunate person with these kind  people who are really there for me and others. I am blessed and time to pay it forward.

Thank you again MoJoy for asking.  I hope you are good and God Bless you.

So sorry to hear of your loss of Melanie. It is a terrible thing when you lose your sweet fur baby. I'm glad she was able to be home. You take care of yourself.

@qvcaddition,

You sound like a very kind and caring person and I bet that is why you have other kind people caring about you.

I think you and Melanie were lucky to have each other. I know you miss her very much. I hope the love you always shared with Melanie will give you comfort while you get lots of rest in the days ahead.

@qvcaddition   I'm so sorry for your loss of precious Melanie.  I remember older posts of you often talking about her.  You certainly have very kind, compassionate people who care for you too.  It is a blessing.  Silver paws seems like such a great organization.  Please take care.  Remember how much joy you both brought each other.  Melanie was blessed to have you too.  Sounds like you both certainly rescued each other.  I'll be thinking about you, and praying for you.  God bless you.

Oh, @qvcaddition , I am so so sorry to hearing of Melanie's passing.💔

Reading your many posts over the years about her I know that she had such a wonderful life with you.  You saved each other.  I know how much my dog meant to me after my husband passed on and how much I miss her now, even though I still have two cats.  I know how hard it is and I can only imagine how empty your home feels right now.

I'm happy to hear that you have kind neighbors to look in on you and that you intend to volunteer with organizations that are important to you.  You can help others and by doing so honor Melanie's memory.  And keep yourself busy.

I know perhaps it's too soon to think about it, but if the opportunity should arise in the future and you feel up to it, I hope you are able to share your life with another little soul in need.

Hugs to you...💔🐾🪽❤️
