There is no loss that compares.
One thing my daughter told me that really helped me, becaue I couldn't stop crying for days and just wanting to be with them again (and all of us said it was the hardest thing we'd ever been through including any family members we had lost!),
was that they gave us such joy, we owe it to them to honor that love and joy they gave us by living our lives with happiness the way they gave to us. They would not want to see us unhappy.
I feel them every single day with me.
Our love will never end. There is no other love like it.

@hsawaknow I am so sorry. Bo was very fortunate to have you all...and you will see him again one day in Heaven. Please take good care of yourself even though your heart is breaking now. It's never, ever easy to say goodbye to someone in your family. Sending you peace and comfort at this super sad time, EEL

For those that have dogs with the type of issues discussed here or bad skin issues, check out NZYMES website. Sure helped my dog with terrible skin issues. (I am in no way connected to this company except as a satisfied customer.)

There comes a time when some of us can no longer take in animals for reasons known to our hearts and though I said that many times in the past, I have now been --- five years --- without a kitty. I have had kitties and sometimes multiples since I can remember, but the last time I put one down, I decided in fairness to me and another animal, it is too late in life. I have severe osteoporosis and kitties like to walk right with you, often tripping you and for that reason, it would not be fair to me to have something I loved that much, trip me and cause me to fall and lose my life and then I would not be able to care for the poor, sweet baby I loved. Another reason, my kitties always lived about 20 years and I do not expect to have that many years on this earth remaining, and it would be unfair to get a kitty and leave it without anyone to care for it. For that reason, I have made the decision as unselfishly as I can, not to encumber a cat with the failing health of its owner.

I am so sorry for your loss. YES, I get it. It hurts so bad. Feels like your heart is breaking. It's OK to cry. He was a Family member, and if someone doesn't get that? Well then, I feel sorry for them, to have never had the unconditional love of a Dog.
Sending
{{{Gentle Hugs}}}
To You And Your Family.

@hsawaknow- I am so very sorry for your loss. I completely understand how you feel. Dogs are family members and it's devastating losing a family member. Reading your post brings tears to my eyes and I hope it gets easier for you day by day. Please take care.

Sending you a (((hug))).
You did the right thing, but I know how hard it is. It has been 3 1/2 years since I had my last one put down and I'm still not ready for another one. I hope you can find comfort in the happy memories. 🐾🐾

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a cat who lived to be 21. I had people tell me I should put him down just because he was old. I thought that was awful. I loved him. Why would I betray him just because he is old? He had arthrtis and it was managed with medicine and vitamins. He went to the vet twice a year for check ups because he was a senior. I feed him senior food.He was old but he was happy and alert. He was old but, he still wanted attention. He still wanted to play even though the he was not as agile do to his arthritis. He had throat cancer and deterioated quite quickly because he couldn't eat. He was in pain and never got mean. He used his litter box up until the end. I had to put him down to end his suffering. We were fortunate and our vet came to the house so he could pass at home. His name was Handsome and he was a wonderful, gentle cat. He has been gone 5 years and I teared up typing this. There are those of us who do understand. Those who do not understand must have never had a bond with an animal and they have missed out on something special.
Handsome Honey, My big boy

@hsawaknow I can only compare the loss of a beloved pet to a kick in the gut. You feel physical as well as emotional pain. So many of us understand the feelings you're having.
I wish all the owners of senior dogs would read the symptoms of "old dog disease". My last collie had it and my vet recognized it instantly so it's not uncommon. It is survivable.
