@hsawaknow, I am so sorry and my heart breaks for you.  I understand perfectly as to how you feel because I lost my beautiful Darcy on February 4.  I miss her every single day and my heart still aches.

Bo was so special and it is very difficult when you and the doctors cannot understand what is really going on.  The most important thing is that he knew that he was loved unconditionally.  Always remember that.

It may be too painful right now to think of getting another dog; but, when  the time is right, Bo will let you know in some way that it is time to rescue.  Remember that dogs save us just as much as we save them.

I will remember you in my prayers.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

Everyone here will understand, and we do, all too well.

This is one of life's biggest heart breaks, loosing a beloved pet. They are so unconditional in their love, and they don't come with all the complications that our human loved ones do, so there is a very deep and special pain for this loss.

And you are right, most of the people in our lives don't get how really really deep the hurt is, or how all consuming it is in the beginning, or how long ( the rest of our lives in some aspect or another) it will last for us.

In my experience, every pet lost is a sadness, but the ones we face as we get older, seem to hurt deeper and longer. Don't hesitate to give in to your feelings and sadness, and don't feel the need to apologize to anyone for it. Know that Bo knew what a great life he had, that is what his unyielding loyalty was about. He loved and appreciated you as much as you did him.

Hugs and prayers for some peace for you, and for the pain to subside a little more with each passing day.

I've been thru the death of 3 very special dogs. After our last dog died I swore no more dogs. I can't stand to lose another one. Also at our age I'd be afraid to die or be sent to the home and leave the dog homeless.

Sorry your going thru this.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.  I was there too only months ago when we had to put the biggest love of our lives (outside of our human family) down with prostrate cancer only 6 months after a $3,000 operation.  He was almost 15 and the end of the era when both of our boys were home.  I cried for days over that pup and he will always be "the one".

Please know you are in my prayers.  They are our little angels and we give them so little for what they give us.

@hsawaknow

There are more people here that do understand than don't. You have greatly underestimated the number of animal lovers that post here, and I am just 1 of them.

We have been owned by well over 30 felines over several decades, and "putting them down" is not an easy thing for any person that has furry kids. Our only kids have 4 legs and fur, and that was a choice wife and myself made 46 years ago.

I am very sorry to read about your "Bo" and the pain he suffered. It breaks every animal lovers heart to read stories like those in your post, most have had similar or the same experiences, some, many times over.

Wasn't that long ago when 1 of our felines was in a similar condition as your "Bo". It was on a Sunday so we too had to take her to an Emergency Animal Veterinarian Hospital. She however was diagnosed, with Pulmonary Blood Clots, which are deadly to both humans and animals. We had her "put down"/ took her home with us, and had our regular Vet take her to the Crematorium.

She is still with us along with our many others we have put in a special place, with pictures of each one of them close by, some we put right in a place made for them on most of the urns.

My best to you during this very tough time.

@hsawaknow, I am so, so sorry for your loss. Some of us have pets and some of us have furbabies, if you get what I mean. You had a very blessed furbaby and your precious Bo knew you loved him. For what its worth, I do think we will see these pets again on the other side.

Please take some comfort in knowing you were very good to such a wonderful pet. Again, I'm so very sorry for your loss.
