My state keeps increasing property taxes. Mine went up 8% in September.

Not here. Ours went up.

I was disappointed because it sounded like his
plan was delayed till next year. Looks like some of
this is the 65+ exemption/deferral. We went to the tax accessor's office last week where she made some changes
to our account. Whatever, I'm just glad to see it nearly
cut in half.
Ours went down but not by much. I'm in Arizona and for a $450,000 house I pay about the same as the OP. Arizona has reasonable property taxes.

@monicakm Our taxes in this area of MD are pretty reasonable. We sit on about an acre of ground in a subdivision and I think last year they were maybe $1500. We have our own well and septic, so no need to rely on municipal services.
However, we live 15 minutes from the ocean and well, those property taxes down there are outrageous. Would love to inch closer, but we aren't in a position to pay $5,000 a year for taxes on top of a 600-800,000$ mortgage - Not in this life no matter how long we continue to work.

@GingerHead You gotta be either near or on the water or live in front of a mountain vista view!

No, I wish!
We do have a nice house that we bought for a steal and fixed it ourselves but it's just a regular home on 2.5 acres (not completely private acres).
I just looked it up and the median tax bill for our area in the PNW is $4,894 ....Horrible!

we bought our home 40 years ago, so our taxes aren't too bad around 4000. Taxes here are based on 1.5% of the home purchase price. We have stayed here, if we moved, or bought our own house back our taxes would be 19,000@year. My daughter in town bought. 25 yrs ago, her taxes are over 10,000. Ain't pretty.sight, taxes. But we do have so much here. Luckily, our home is paid.

Not here in CA.

@monicakm Proud for ya! TX may have dropped theirs but here in North MS our taxes have doubled as they supposedly reevaluated the home values........

Doubling sounds crazy! Ours goes up every year but maybe $100 at the most. I love our gov and am thankful there are no term limits.
