Winifred, I'm glad you were able to get the shots to help your thumbs. I had a shot in my right thumb one time. I don't know what the stuff was that they used, a steroid of some kind I guess. I watched them take the stuff out of it's container and swear the needle they used to do that part of the procedure looked like a horse's needle. They then took the fluid out of that syringe and put it into another, smaller needle thank goodness. It hurt like a son of a gun but it worked. I have a bit of arthritis at the base of both of my thumbs.
I'm glad you are already getting relief. I hope I don't ever need another one of those shots. The ones they put into my shoulders are cortisone shots and the saying is " no pain, no gain". So true, after one of those shots, I have to pick my arm up and move it and it hurts so bad, but then it works for months. Sometimes the pain in the joint from the shot, starts before I can get home. Might need one of those in my left knee if it doesn't clear up soon. Heck to get old, but not liking the alternative at all.
Take care of yourself, and rest whenever you get a chance.

Possum, I need those shots twice a year - one cannot have them in the same place closer than 6 months apart. One shot does not do it and I agree, the pain of those shots is wicked indeed. But it works. It is a steroid - Cortisone - I actually opened up a jar using my hands and not an opener helper. LOL. Dr. Webb said my arthritis in my thumbs is some of the worse he has seen - well I know it sure impacts my ability to hold things and also open them He called me back to ask how it was and I said great!! He also wants me to get a wrist Xray as they saw something on the bone in my wrist. Sigh. Heck to get old. Monday I have to go in for a scan so will find out if I can get the Xray done while I am there - not sure if they will do a scan and an Xray the same day. Medicine can be confusing. I detest those - the Co pay is so expensive - use to be FREE. In January SCAN is lowering the cost to $60 co pay for a scan. Too much but a lot better than what we pay now.
Also hope to get the feeders done tomorrow - the black oil sunflower feeder is completely empty - well of course that one is.
Possum great pictures of Miss Blackie but the one you have here looks sweet, Miss Blackie has her moments. LOL. The CArdinal is gorgeous.
Got some persimmons picked - Davey does not know it yet but he will get the rest off the tree tomorrow. Birds are beginning to nibble at them and I do NOT like that. Last two years someone obviously jumped the fence and every single one was gone so I knew someone had stolen them. Birds leave tell tale hints all about - nothing at all the past two years. I had been checking them and then same thing two years in a row - they all disappeared completely. Dumb people.
Hope all had a great day.

@possummink @Winifred Once, one of my thumbs swelled and locked in a bent position. All of my fingers, over a period of years, became trigger fingers but I cured them myself, not so with the thumb. I received a shot in it, and you are right, so painful, but the worst for me was that my thumb was numb for days, horrible feeling, but it never locked again, and no issues with it everafter.

Winifred, I hope you get all of your persimmons this year. I love them, but only the American persimmon. We have a couple of trees but so far no fruit off of them. We haven't had a hard freeze here, which usually gets rid of the pucker mouth when you bite in to them.
My granddaughters picked some a couple of weeks ago at Busch Wildlife Preserve which is a bit west of St. Louis County. My oldest GD made persimmon pudding and it was pretty good for her first attempt. Her dad used to make it all the time. I just love to eat the pulp out of the persimmons and then toss the seeds hoping some more trees will grow.
When I was growing up on the farm, we had persimmons every year. A few of the trees grew across the creek in our horse pasture. Had to compete with possums though to get them.
Used to have hedge apples too, aka Osage oranges. Non edible, but I love to have them each year as a decoration and reminder of my childhood. Think I'm in my 2nd or 3rd childhood now. Good memories and I thank God for letting me have and keep them.

Mousie, It's been about 7 or more years since I had the thumb shot. At that time I didn't even know that there were doctors who specialized only in hand medicine. Seems like every part of us has a specialist. Don't know whether that's good or bad. I guess good, but all those co-pays, like Winifred said.
Once in a while my right thumb base gets a bit swolllen and is kind of 'itchy'. but the shot seems to have done it's job. Hopefully I won't need any more.
