@Luvsmyfam   Stay safe is #1. We always leave one car out of the garage since the door is electric, we couldn't get out either in an emergency. We also bring patio furniture closer to house and rockers from front porch come inside on a plastic painting cloth so not to scratch wood floors.

a basement is the one thing I miss about living up north. In Florida there are no basements. I'm really scared of bad storms and tornados

@Luvsmyfam ---that just makes me cringe!! Here in WA we can get some pretty gnarly wind storms--  but not tornados-- however--the last one  in Nov--just before T-day--of course---one took the power out for 2-3 days.   and my tiny refer/freezer was full of t-day dinner stuff. My DS came to get the frozen things for their freezer but I took 5 garbage bags of food--about $400 to the dumpster!! but around 1/4 of a million out of power for days and lots of damage. I bought an Eco 2 indoor power bank so I can hook up the refer and not go thru all that again--have used it once since then too. It is charged up and living under my dining table on its own little wheeled trolley. good luck!!

If you keep your freezer closed.  It will keep everything frozen for at least two days.

First of all, worry about where in your house is the safest place to go in case of a tornado.  Lowest level, center small room or bathroom.  Have something to cover yourself and your head.

Stay alert to weather updates, and if a tornado is sighted near you, go immediately to shelter.  Don't be on the road if you can possibly avoid it if a storm is coming your way.  Stay safe.  The freezer is a minor thing, your safety isn't.  Please be aware.

I was thinking the same thing regarding opening the door manually.  You can disconnect the automatic opener inside the garage and just open the old fashion way.   I've never heard of a garage door being solely electronic, seems like it would be quite the safety hazard.

We just had a line of severe t-storms roll through here in Lincoln, Nebraska. 

I pray for all those in the path of severe weather over the next few days...

Do any of you have access to dry ice?   I know during the 1989 earthquake here many friends used this and ice for frozen food.  They days. One friend took duck tape and sealed edge of cooler and wrapped the cooler in solar blanket and just foil or bath towels.  May not be something you woukd want to do at the spur of moment...but great idea for future. My one friend kept food frozen for the 5 days her power was out. We were lucky, our power wasn't hurt.
