Re: No hair or nail salons open! Help!!

April 25 will be the 2 month mark of no hair cut. Was going to get my hair cut when everything was shut down last month.

I have gone beyond wizard of oz scarecrow hair to plain unruly. Welcome baseball cap. My gray hair is showing more and more.

I have always kept my hair quite short so length isn't getting to me yet

what i miss the most is my monthly facial. My facialist is superior in my eyes. Those monthly specials i get just make my day for a whole month.

one less problem to worry about and then you can concentrate on what is REALLY IMPORTANT.

So what should people be doing? Just sitting around thinking about a virus all day? Watching the numbers go up? You're on this site which seems like a very unserious thing to be doing during these trying times.

Re: No hair or nail salons open! Help!!

There are various stages of color you can try, from color depositing conditions for temporary color to semi-permanent that will wash out in a month, or permanent color.

Overtone color-depositing conditioner is mostly known for wild colors, but if you check their Basics line, that's where you'll find shades of brown, ginger, blonde, and black. None of them use bleach, so if you're blonde by choice, they won't make your natural hair lighter, they only add color.

You can also try wash-out colors from the drugstore before trying permanent if you're nervous. Clairol Natural Instincts washes out in 3-4 weeks.

If you want to color your hair at home with a professional line (not a drugstore boxed dye) you can try eSalon or Mogan Reed. They walk you through a quiz to get the right shade for you and their sites have lots of videos you can use to help you get through it on your own. They also have a subscription service, so you can have it sent to you as often as you need. You may want to try that over a boxed dye because of the color matching and support.

I use Ion hair color and developer from Sally Beauty. That's another great professional color, but it doesn't come with the support of eSalon or Morgan Reed.

I used drugstore color for years and while I was happy with the color and the process, I've found that changing to professional color has made a big difference in terms of longevity. Using Ion color with a brush and a bowl has given me much longer-lasting gray coverage and more even color than I got when I used the drugstore dye with the squeeze bottle.

Hope that helps, @Newgate. Good luck! I've been coloring at home for nearly 30 years. Just make sure you lay down some old towels and keep the counter as clean as possible and you'll be fine!

@Newgate

I don't know if you have all one color done so this is just a suggestion.

My stylist gave us her number and told us if necessary, she would give us the color combo she uses if she has it or will go to the shop to get it.

The day before the mandatory closing I was lucky enough to have an appointment but ladies/gents were coming in most the day.

I don't know if this would help, I'm glad I went a little lighter this time since I have high/low lights and my grey is blending ... and the sun is helping it look more blonde!

Re: No hair or nail salons open! Help!!

I've been coloring my own hair for a very long time.  Occasionally I have it done at a salon, but I'm happier doing it myself.  I use Clairol Perfect Ten, which used to be sold in stores but is not anymore so I buy it on Amazon.  It's quick and easy, and the color looks great.  Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can do it.

I'm showing a lot of grey now and I'm clearly overdue, but I don't plan to color my hair for awhile.  It just doesn't matter to me right now - It's certainly not the priority it used to be. Everything is more casual overall, so I'm just going along with that.

totally unnecessary response!  Obviously, you are stressed but it is not necessary to take it out on others -- we can't control the current situation! Nor are we responsible for your job or financial situation.

and if you must know having  hair, nails and  skincare is part of their normal routine .. and that's what makes us feel good.

No whining here just part of our lifestyle!  Perhaps you're the whining one😏

@Luvsmyfam My husband and I are in our late 70's and are both retired. We live on our pensions.  But we have 3 children who have been affected by this pandemic seriously!  One has lost her job, another has had her pay cut in half and a grandaughter and her husband have just bought a new house and now his job is on hold.  I have been trying to comfort all of them every day and I have been praying a lot for them.
I will pray for you tonight also!

[ Edited ]

I have lots of brands in ligh ash brown- I sometimes do it myself, sometimes go to a salon. I decided to let it grown naturally for now - and will treat myself to a fancy salon for a new style & color when everything has calmed down.

For my zoom work meetings I might start using Joan's 'great hair day' product for a short term fix  though!! Woman Very Happy
