There is a differnce between wanting something and being willing to accept something. Obviously the neighbor was willing to accept the branches, they did not want or need the branches.

Wow, didn't mean to start a kerfuffle.
I had cut up the branches and was putting them in the trash bin for trash pickup. Saw my neighbor and remembered he had a fire pit. Thought he might want some kindling. I offered it to him, no strings attached. If he took it, fine, if not, trash pickup was the next day. I certainly didn't expect him to clean up my yard. There was no hidden agenda. Really, that's all it was. I agree that I wasn't clear that he should get them himself.
A different neighbor offered me some extra mulch once. I got my wheel barrow and shoveled the mulch, went to my house, and spread it around myself. I surely didn't expect him to trundle it over to my house.
A gentlemen helped me load 50 pounds of water softener salt into my car. I didn't think he had any agenda, other than to help me.
Maybe it's a regional thing, but people in my corner of the country generally don't have a hidden agenda when they do something for another. I'm sure some people might, but it really isn't the norm.
I hope that these comments don't discourage anyone reading them from being kind or lending a hand. Maybe it will be misinterpreted or unappreciated, but at least an effort was made.

Dragonfly, when I read your post it never occurred to me that you had a hidden agenda. You were trying to be kind and helpful to your neighbor. Too bad that he expected you to deliver the wood to his yard.
Also thought it was strange when a few posters suggested that you were looking for free labor to clean up your yard. I have no idea how they got that from your post.
You sound like a nice person and a good neighbor to have.

@50Mickey isn't that something? Sometimes I wonder if we are reading the same posts.

By the way, some places here in Georgia would have neat piles of firewood for anyone who needs them. The sign says "Free Firewood". It beats buying them.

Scarlett: And lumber, too.
Frank Kennedy: Well that's only a sideline.
Scarlett quote: A sideline, Frank? With all the good Georgia pine around Atlanta and all this building going on?

I have had to get rid of a lot of things lately so I can eventually move out. A friend told me I could call 1-800-VETS and they will come out and pick everything up for free. It is a great way to donate by helping Vets, and you get the things taken away. (Look into if they except furniture, for next time) I'm so glad you were able to give your items away, without paying that guy.
