I'm sorry you had to struggle during the pandemic.

Your governor sounds smart.  So many died. So many carry the virus without having symptoms.  I can't imagine your dentist or you wanting to catch it.  I know I wouldn't want anyone's face that close to mine given how it's passed.

Don't stress over semantics.  Unnecessary isn't a bad word.  It never occurred to me that it was saying people were unnecessary. It just represents certain jobs that can be left undone for a while or that are too dangerous given the way covid is transmitted.  I know I wouldn't want my dentist's face that close to mine right now.

I was the very first patient my eye surgeon cancelled the day they had to shut down so I've struggled with warped vision for nearly 3 months. I would rather struggle than die.  I finally got it done last week after passing a covid test and meeting a dozen other precautions.

Yes, a lot of people think only of themselves.   Who knows how many will pass the virus to others, some of whom will die.  The "it's all about me" attitude is ruining our society.

I have a friend who truly believes there is a world-wide conspiracy to control people by making up covid and the need to wear masks.  She thinks 100,000 dying in 3 months is part of that conspiracy.  Sadly, she's not the only one who thinks this way.

There are countless people who devote themselves to doing good things for others - before, during and after the pandemic.  There are a lot of good people in the world.  Watch for them instead of just offenders.

You sound so angry and that can't be good for you. IMO, the best medicine is to reach out and help someone... charity, food bank, church, friends, family.  Go for a walk.  Sit outside for a while.  Read a good book. Or maybe contact a professional.

@CalminHeart, yes there are people out there like that. I saw just one example on the news last when they were interviewing a man at a very raucous combination protest/political rally. The man said that the virus is a hoax perpetrated by those who want to control us.

Ok. So there is no real proof that any of the measures that are being taken can prevent the spread of anything. A cold. The flu. Or Covid 19.

And, honestly, putting a mask over your face after you have touched everything (All of the things, including your face while you are putting the mask on.) isn't going to stop you from spreading germs.

If you know that you have any illness, it is wise to stay home.

But, we can not stop living our lives because of fear.

If you believe that a mask protects you & or other people. Wear one.

Wash your hands every chance that you get.

If you see someone out & they are not wearing a mask do not approach them. Stay away from them. You take care of you in the way that you choose to.

You know what helps no one. Calling others idiots.. calling people names, because you believe something, because you think that you are right, it serves no purpose.

You can explain why you feel that way that you feel & you may change someone's mind. You may not. Call them an idiot...what have you done?

@Dusty1

You could be asymptomatic for up to 2 weeks, therefore spreading the virus like wildfire. The reason for the mask is to keep your droplets contained.

And yes, at this pont of the pandemic there is 'proof'. The essential workers have a lower percentage of posiitve results than the general public; they regualrly practice the cdc guidelines.

No social distancing, masks, or vaccine for them.

Yes, to save the economy, those least at risk should return to work, but this attitude from the start is disturbing.

@Foxxee On  fb and other social media, many of the 'freedom of choice'  (including copy/pastes of the Constitution!) also state it's affecting the elderly and people with comprised health. While that might be for many of the cases, there's zero empathy and little regard for human life! Many are doing the right thing by respecting others, I've seen extremely negative  sides of people as well.

Just a observation about people!!!

A young child was behind me today at Dollar Tree.  He was holding his bag of popcorn & had a card.

Now, I know he meant no harm to me or others BUT some ignorant know it all "mask police" woman said to him : "you're in her space (not behind orange line but not directly near me) don't you know about social distancing or don't you care"!!

Needless to say, I was po'd how dare this older lady speak 1) on my behalf and 2) chastise a 9 year old (he looked about this age).

I told her to mind her own business & he's a child.   If she was so worried about getting sick stay home😡....normally, I'd just do the eye roll but c'mon a kid!!  By the way, he had a bandana on!!!

Grrrrrr sick of people "policing" others😡

It's not all about you.  Perhaps the bigger point is how to teach the child to think about others instead of being selfish and inconsiderate.

@CalminHeart  I would have said something to the child- or the parent/guardian that would have (or should have!)  been with him. Since he was wearing a bandana, just reminding him gently about staying 6 ft back would have been sufficient.

@stevieb I'm sure there's been Moderator/Admn 'poof!' activities! From the posts remaining, there's an overall  cloud  for potential nasty posts.

@CalminHeart No. Calling someone an idiot is never "kind". I am not trying to argue, but there is no proof that the measures that are available to us are helpful at all.

It's a placebo that makes us feel like we are doing something.

There are just as many statistics & "facts" that show the opposite of what people are quoting, but you believe what you believe & see the other "facts" as fallacy.

Fact. There is a virus. I do personally know 1 person that had the virus & he was in the hospital for a month. Our pediatrician. His wife, 5 children, their spouses & his grandchildren were not allowed to visit him in the hospital. It was scary.

None of them have the virus. They were with him right up unitl he went into the hospital.

None of them have it now.

My husband has been working this entire time. No masks are required & most of the people that come into the business are not wearing masks. Some are, of course.

My DIL is a teacher at the Christian school & they have been shut down. She is homeschooling my 2 grandsons. My son is still working & his company is not masked. None of them are sick.

My SIL is WFH & so he & my daughter & my 3 other grandsons have stayed quarantined since this started. None of them are sick.

I know that doesn't mean that none of us will get sick. I know there are risks. I do try to be clean & careful.

This world is hard, but I am doing the best I can with what I got.

@Dusty1 What state do you live in? Where I am, there's no way my family, friends and neighbors would have been so fortunate with the circumstances you described.  Consider yourself blessed!

@Ibby114, what they imply is that it is a disease that mostly affects those who were going to die soon anyway. But they're wrong about two things: the elderly and health-compromised may have many, many years ahead them that they deserve as much as young, healthy people; and no, the disease affects and kills adults of all ages.
