Don't blame you for wanting to be rid of them. They'd drive me nuts too.
I checked the back and it is an overcast seam ...I am going to carefully take it apart at the seam like you suggest and remove them. I have a serger too....so I can overcast the seam again.....
I LOVE the color and fit.....but those ties will drive me nuts...LOL
