@Snowpuppy. I can relate. Wow...I had a coworker who went back and forth to work on our little bus service. She no longer owned a car. Her adult daughter had a car and lived with her but wasn't around much. I retired before her so was home and live alone. Then requests for weekly rides to grocery shop began.
It esculated started to tell me what time she wanted to go on Saturday and longer trips ensued to go for special items like cheaper cigarettes. She would put five dollars in my visor in appreciation, but that wasn't the point. At first I didn't mind helping her out but I was being used.
I was really busy rescuing a dog for one and didn't call her back. She left a nasty message saying she wasn't going to bother if I didn't call back. Never spoke to her again. Some people are just users and expect more and more.

A social worker told me that.
It varies by state but you are correct. There's an limit on assets. Also people are using the term assisted living and they don't know what the bleep they are talking about. Most are throwing that term around because someone else used it. Assisted living is NOT a nursing home or rehab or a convalescent home. It's for people who are disabled or elderly and require help with activities of daily living. Feeding, dressing, bathing, taking medication. It's very expensive and Medicaid and Medicare don't cover it because it isn't medical care. When we inquired for my sister a few years ago, the lowest cost in the Boston area was $6500 a month. Most people simply cannot afford it.
Yes, Medicaid does pay. If a resident meets the clinical availability, and the facility has a Medicaid bed available they pay.
Some of us do know what we are talking about.
