Among Friends

I love movies - especially the classics - and was wondering if you have a favorite character that has inspired you in positive some way. It doesn't matter if they are the main character or only had a few moments on screen.

I was watching "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" this weekend (a movie I've watched a dozen times!) and the character of Becky, the girl who is passing through the small town with her grandmother, always inspires me to be a better, kinder person. 

Another example for me is the teacher in "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" (1945). She is only on screen for just a few minutes, but her kindness to the the poverty-stricken Francie gives her hope and inspiration to follow her dreams. Such goodness restores my faith in people, especially in these turbulent times where there is so much negativity on the news and all around us.

Sigourney Weaver in 'Alien' and 'Aliens'.

The first time I watched a strong, intelligent, resourceful woman in a lead role at the movies. She rocked!

It had to be Clarice from Silence of the Lambs. She was focused on her career and would not let anything or anyone stop her from achieving her goals.

Jill Kinmont from the movie The Other Side of the Mountain.

She was a champion skier paralyzed in a skiing accident.

I've had several health issues and she inspires me to be grateful for what I do have and not focus on the negative.

If you haven't seen the movie, her boyfriend left her because he couldn't deal with it. She becomes a teacher and falls in love. There is so much more to it. I recommend it.
