Re: Name Something You NEVER Wanted!!!!!

Alcohol, smoking.  Marijuana is legal in CT now.  I'm happy for the people it helps, but I'm not in  a hurry to try it.

A fit bit.  But our son bought me one 4 years ago and it's been a great gift.  It keeps me aware of how active or inactive I am. It's been a boon to my health.

I've never wanted to be on or in the ocean.

I've never wanted a smart phone.

I've never wanted gladiator shoes.

I've never wanted to fly in a plane.

@phoenixbrd       My husband is 81, I am much younger, while he is not against moving at this stage of his life he does not want to take on another mortgage.  Our home is paid off but if we were able to sell we'd have to spend roughly another  $75,000 +the sale of our home to purchase another home.

As a young bride I did not push hard enough to look for another home before we started living our life in the current house.

I am very surprised what people DO NOT DO to their homes.  When I check listings on line, I see that most homes have not been kept up to date.  We have a lovely back yard, fully fenced in, with a three season room.  A few years ago we updated the master bath, new drive way....I could go on...

I despise the outside of this house, the inside is mine but I have never liked the style of the outside.  I am thankful for a nice home...I don't want to appear ungrateful, but I would LOVE to pick out a house that I wanted.  Good luck and have fun looking for your new home, I am jealous!

@Mom2Dogs   Thank you for your thoughtful share.  I can understand your husband's position, he wants to keep you safe and solvent.  I can also share your regret about previous decisions.  We were looking for houses twice the size of our current home when we purchased this house as it was convenient to work and we both have worked 24/7s for most of our adult live.  We never intended for it to be a forever home.

Instead of moving, we just kept pumping money into this house....mahogany floors, higher baseboards, stained glass windows/doors, etched double-pained regular windows, a fireplace mantel so beautiful with marble that was custom cut around the inside to match the kitchen counters...both bathrooms, kitchen, walls moved...our backyard is terraced and landscaped - I could go on, the list is extensive and we were foolish.  We have now been here many more years than expected and as much as we love what we have done, there are things that we can't change that we have always wanted, but never had the time to enjoy - some land, space, and my husband is very creative and would love to have a workshop.

We have a plan and are moving forward.  At times, I pause and reflect on priorities in life.  I appreciate what we have and what we have built, like you putting your personal  touches into your home.  We kept changing the interior landscape neglecting the fact that the limitations of space could never be overcome.  Now, I realize I can live anywhere and be happy.  It has to do with my own interior space...my consciousness and spiritual nature.

We are looking for our forever home, but if nothing comes close with the additional land/space we are seeking, we will stay put.  I am so grateful that we  have what we do and, especially with the current unrest, we are very appreciative.  Where ever we land, we will be happy.  Wishing both of us much joy in the future, I know both you and I are thankful for what we have.  Wish we could visit and have a cup of tea.

@phoenixbrd   What a lovely home you have, and YES! I'd love to have a cup of tea, coffee (my choice of drink) with you.  I am always open to new friends....two of my best friends retired and moved many states away.

@hckynut   I love learning and can relate to your post.  For many years, I've spent a large percentage of. time in classes/seminars....some which I chose and others required of me professionally.  At this point in my life, I am doing exactly what I enjoy and have never been so focused/passionate about my learning/research/writing.   I hope that you are able to find exactly what pleases you, from your posts I know you are dedicated to exercise/hockey.  Perhaps because both of us have chosen healthy lifestyles, we are able to move forward with our personal goals.  Best of all to you!
