Betty, I'm in the same weather pattern as you and could see snow on Saturday.  I don't know if we will get an Indian Summer.  I think we had temps at least once the fell below freezing, before the warm spell came back.  I considered that my squaw winter as there was hard frost on the grass, lol.  My father's side has Native American heritage, you would think I'd know more about it.

The four year old is going to love unwrapping the table and chairs.  Maybe for the 12 year old you could pick up a cute wallet or change purse (do kids even carry those) or a cute inexpensive little purse and stuff the money in that.

Re: NOVEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

Freddie, every winter, no matter what I do or what I put on my hands (I've tried it all), I get a deep crack in at least one thumb, to the left or right of my nail on the finger tip.  It's funny my middle sister and I get them and my mom got them in the exact same spot. Maybe the common denominator is we did and do dishes by hand.  I don't know what it is, but man it hurts like a sunofagun.

Re: NOVEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

@Winifred

Hi Winifred...My apologies for just now seeing your note to me.  I stop by the back fence once in a while to say hey to @Bird mama and catch up on all the news, so I'm a little behind the curve...story of my life!

I'm in NC...Piedmont area.  It truly is beautiful here.  You must have some good/fond memories of your childhood...?  For me, the changes since I moved here (right after 9-11) from SoCal (LA, Orange County, San Diego) are not too great or noticeable.  But, different perspective, Handsome was born/reared here and he can hardly stand all the changes...he's a country boy at heart and even a new stop sign can send him into a rant LOL.

I was a city girl, but I don't think you could pay me to move back to a city now.  Handsome and I sing the parts of the Green Acres theme song to each other LOL!

But, back to the beauty of it...fall!!  Oh the colors!  I happen to love the leaves falling on the ground...and I'd let them stay there if I had my way...but that's because I'm not in charge of the lawncare, thank You, L-RD!

Weather has been hovering around 70 fairly steadily for a week or so...it finally stopped raining...and sunny.  We had some wind, but nothing to write home about like some of you have had.

Hope you are well!

Hello to all the nice folks at the Back Fence!  Have a great evening y'all.

[waving to @house_cat  Hope your Mom is doing better!]

Re: NOVEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

Hi Back Fencers, well we've had rain & high winds, but still in the 50's, about to change tonite, might see some snow this week-end, it is that time of year.  Having leftovers for dinner so an easy nite

@house_cat, hope Mom is doing well, the wrist is a difficult break, there's so many small bones.  The pix were great ideas for giving cash gifts so @yock that should help, I thought they were cute.

@Winifred Oh you & me with the eggplant, love it, but like you said a lot of work, I too love making a sandwich, did it as a kid, last time I made it I placed some ricotta filling & rolled it, was quite good. @Bird mama you are a godsend to your sister,, sounds like the cat is doing well, keep us in the loop

Tomorrow back to O'Hare, attending a forum on the refugee meets, I mostly do the wounded warriors, but do have some issues with these meets, probably not pc so I'll leave it alone.

Flights were backed up today due to high winds, I think more to come tomorrow so might get stuck there helping out.

Come on by for hot chocolate & donuts

Re: NOVEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

MacDuff - am glad you answered me. I know where you are and I so enjoyed going back. Actually I was so surprised to see a couple houses we lived in still standing and just beautiful. Lived behind Meredith College on what was then known as HIghland Ridge Road = LOTS of woods, etc. Now the house is still there but not the huge acreage it was way back when. Then we had a house on Barmettler STreet, more in the city, and it is still there. The NC State Fairgrounds are still there and I use to go all the time. ACross the highway and rr tracks my grandparents had 100 plus acres - so very beautiful. That was heartbreaking to see that now as it is all split up and of course their house is gone. Poole Equipment Co is there, Shell gas station bunch of huge condos, etc. My grandparents were so fortunate to have lived on some great acreage - he had his own grinding company in downtown Raleigh but had grapes, lots of veggies, a cow and other things and the most delightful man did the plowing and helping - his name was John Arnold They had their own well and that too was heavenly. Seeing all of that gone was heartbreaking for me but seeing the fairgrounds an d many other things still standing was marvelous. I do NOT like Sou Cal any more - cannot stand it.

I live in between Yucaipa and Palm Springs = worked in PS for a lot of years.

Thanks for responding and enjoy your great area. Am frying the eggplant - will take a spell but I am willing to wait it out. LOL.

Re: NOVEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

The sun is shining at we're in the 50 degree range.  Hard to believe in 2 days I'll be looking at snow.  I get excited by the first snow like a kid, lol.

I don't remember if they said MI was getting it from Canada, by way of Wisconsin or if it would be working it's way from Indiana and Illinois.

If you start seeing any snow, give a shout out and let me know where it's coming from lol.

Re: NOVEMBER 2015 - Back Fence

Nice day today and tomorrow it should be equally as nice. That is good - will be in the 80s. Not bad, huh??

Betty, some great ideas you got here - let us know what you eventually do. Inquiring minds you know!

Am tired, need to head for the bed - I know it's early even out here but with this time change, I am ready for bed quite frankly at 5 in the afternoon - completely dark then. Sigh.

Hope all had a great day.
