DH and I made a quick run out for Mexican food. We've never been drinkers except a glass of wine...don't order a bottle when out and never cocktails.
We've noticed that restaurant parties that keep ordering drinks get much better service w/ the wait person assuming the ticket goes higher and so does the tip.
Anyone else feel slightly ignored compared to those ordering pitchers of margaritas?

As a single woman, I mostly only go to restaurants with groups of other women. Ladies' night out, before or after a movie, or a lunch with co-workers, you get the drift. Regardless of what we order, drinks or no drinks, if it's a female server, we are often met with a bad attitude and bad service. I guess it's a common misconception that women are bad tippers. I always tip AT LEAST 15%, usually more. Well, talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy! When we get a great server, we tip generously.

I have not noticed poor service but I have noticed if you just ask for water they get a "look". I can only have caffeine first thing in the morning or it reeks havoc on my sleep. If I'm out for lunch and ask for water I feel like they don't like it but I add extra money to my tip to compensate for not ordering a drink.

I believe that restaurants make their money on liquor. I think some places encourage servers to push booze, so that might have something to do with it.

we are wine and cocktail drinkers so i cannot say i have really experienced this.
we DO have our favorite waiters and waitresses that we ask for when we go into our regular spots. they always take care of us well no matter what we are ordering.

@coconut1818 It's extremely nice of you to add some extra to your tip for the water. I've personally never seen anyone else do it.

I always get good service, but I frequent the same places.
I drink tea with lemon, unless it's dinner, then I'll have a glass of wine. I do tip generously.

Thank you ECBG. I just feel like it's the right thing to do. It's not their fault I can't drink tea, coffee or soda. Wish restaurants offered decaffeinated tea or soda, but here in Kansas that isn't an option, at least in my area.

@QVCkitty1 I wonder if they're also encouraged to provide an Uber home.
