Releasing balloons are NOT SAFE for wildlife and the environment. There are OTHER ways to remember the passing of loved ones.

I also read an article about how terrible and damaging balloon releases are to the environment and to animals on land and in our oceans.

@San Antonio Gal Rice at wddings is bad for the birds and switched out to confetti, so not sure what a balloon substitute would be.

Weddings - bird seed
Instead of balloons - if you have a firepit, a log or hickory/cherry stick for each person. The flames/smoke ascend like a balloon does.

Same herring in cream sauce..My grandmother used to insist everyone had to have a bowl of her homemade lentil soup..One bowl had a "lucky" penny at the bottom..I never got that one!

On New Year's Day all of my life my grandmother, as well as my mother fixed dinner around noon consisting of black eyed peas, cabbage, fried smoked jowls( they're like thick cut bacon) greens & cornbread. I think it's a southern tradition supposed to bring you prosperity for the upcoming year.

Please do not release balloons. They cause litter and are banned in some places.

I wish balloon releases were banned everywhere. Littering and causing the death of innocent animals honors no one.
I'm so pleased that fellow posters share my concern.
