Congratulations!
I would be over the moon that they werent' having a big blow out wedding that they were either looking for someone else to pay for, or going into debt to have.
Like many young people, they are valuing experiences and travel over more material things, and I think that is so very smart to do when you are young especially.
If it were me as the mother of the groom, I wouldn't be the least upset they had chosen to do things this way, as the celebration afterwards will be much more relaxed and enjoyable without all the stress that weddings can bring,
Who is invited and who isn't, who was asked to be in and who wasn't, who made what decisions and imposed their demands that the bride and groom didn't want, who is going to pay for what, who is going to keep a lid on (fill in the blank of that family member that is a pot waiting to boil over), who is going to be offended by where they were seated, who made a toast etc. etc. etc.
I'd be pleased as punch to simply give or attend a nice after wedding celebration.

Congratulations!
Knowing how I am with my son, I would ask him if I could meet him in the Bahamas and be there when they tied the knot.

@Trinity11@I will miss not being there but I will let them start their life together in their own way. They are a wonderful couple and they have asked family if we would be upset before making this decision.I just wish them happiness together forever.

My daughter and her husband did the same thing - just the two of them went away to get married. She told us that was what they wanted to do rather than a traditional wedding and they later had a small reception at a nice restaurant for close family members and a few friends. I was just happy for them and the reception turned out very nice.
