Some of you know that my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2015 and had a stroke this past May. He is in a very expensive skilled nursing facility. Well, after my daughters, a granddaughter, and I visited my husband for two days, hugging, kissing, even feeding him, we got a phone call yesterday afternoon that he has Covid. One of my daughters and I were with him hours before and he complained he didn't feel well.

A few hours after we got the news I learned that out of the seven residents in my husband's building, five tested positive for Covid. According to the head nurse, no staff had tested positive. With visitors, handymen and women, delivery people, and others coming and going, anyone could have brought it in. So far that's an unfortunate but understandable situation. What is NOT acceptable is I learned today that the first case was diagnosed last Thursday, the second Friday, etc., etc.

i asked one of the staff why family and friends were allowed to visit a facility where five out of seven people have Covid. My husband is symptomatic and has been since Tuesday. My daughter and I have pre-existing conditions that make us more vulnerable to the effects of Covid than the general population. They should have stopped visitors from coming on Day 1, not Day 5. I am angry. My daughter is furious and scared. We are fully vaccinated but our last booster was more than six months ago. Did they think they could keep this quiet? We New Yorkers already experienced an official who tried to keep the ravages of nursing home Covid a secret...and we know what happened to him. Meanwhile we are testing every other day and hoping for the best for all of us.

That is totally unacceptable, you should complain to someone, not sure who.  Since my granddaughters went back to school august 11th we have received many phone messages that someone in their class has come down wih covid, you should have at least been notified.

@Vivian    Fingers crossed that you and your family will be okay and that your dh will be able to overcome his illness.

This misery is never ending. I feel so bad for you and your fsmily and the medical issues you have already had to deal with in the care of your husband. It is totally unacceptable, 3 years into the pandemic, that there continues to be   such lax infection control.

Blessings and prayers to all of you.  Also, I would research the availibility and feasibility of Monoclonal Antibodies in your area for you, and your daughter should you test positive. Good Luck and Thanks for sharing your story.

@Vivian,  so sorry for what your family is going thru with this virus  it's still out there and affecting many families. The nursing home should have definitely informed all visitors of the outbreak !   Are they treating patients with Paclovid or the IV medications?  Hoping you and your family will test negative since you have been boosted. Prayers for a positive outcome. Keep us updated

Re: My husband has Covid

[ Edited ]

Do remember the cover-up that was going on with nursing homes back when Covid first started, you would think facilities learned when they have even one case they would go on shutdown. Notify families as painful as it might be for them not to see their love ones but don't put others in danger this is outrageous .

Crazy this would be going on as you said a very expensive nursing facility, leaving out your word "skilled " because  what did they learn in handling a situation that is still here.

By the way   are masks and testing required before entering, this facility my doctor office still requires mask on and check temperature

Hoping you all keep testing negative and  that your husband is feeling better.
