I would not go back to that salon.  Why did you tip her 25% originally when you hated it?

I agree and also wonder about the tip.  Why give someone a generous tip when one isn't remotely satisfied? If the OP wants to advise the owner of this employee rudeness and her lousy work, fine, but I'd not go back. What to do? I'd buy a box of semi-permanent hair color in a shade I like and that I assess will manage the orange and I'd use it. Probably a medium neutral ash brown or blonde. After three or so weeks, as the temporary color begins to wear out, then I'd go somewhere else for color. Unless one is really dealing with an honest to goodness professional colorist, results are never guaranteed and even then, well, sometimes results aren't what we'd hope for. I recall twice paying good money for highlights that were just mediocre. Oddly, the same woman had done a great job at a run of the mill shop but once she moved to a high end salon, the results weren't nearly as good. I was always curious about that. Then there was the 'body wave' that ended up wtih me having corkscrew curls all over my head and the formula gave my hair a reddish tint. Never again.

I would do what @Carmie  said....

IMO it is best to go to an experienced colorist for this or ombre highlights....

I know a few women who thought they would save a few bucks by going to a regular Salon and they ruined their hair....

@mintedrose   I feel badly you had this awful experience. Haven't read through all the replies, but my first reaction is if it looked bad, orange, wrong, you weren't happy with the service she provided, why did you tip her 25%?

I feel your pain.

I've walked out of the salon miserable more times than I care to think about.  My hairdresser of 18 (!) years would do a great job on my color one visit, and the next it would be like she didn't know what color I wanted.  I kept going to her out of laziness in looking for another hairdresser and the fact that when she was good, she was very good. She rented a chair, so there was no manager to complain to.  I definitely think you should talk to the manager though even if you don't get a redo there just to let them know what that hairstylist did to you.

In my years of experience in salon-going, I have found it is difficult to find a really good stylist/colorist.   I had decided to stop coloring right about when the COVID shutdown of salons began.   So it's been about 10 months since I last visited a salon.  My hair is long and my husband trims it and does a great job.  The silver blends in well with the highlighted/blonde hair and I think looks very nice.  It is so freeing to not have to think about coloring schedules and how it will come out.  Will I walk out of the salon happy or angry?  Was a great decision for me and maybe would be for you (?)

@Tessa Mendoza, you described my hair status perfectly, although I would say that my hair color is a very light brown with natural highlights (pretty much what I was born with). The last time I had my roots done was February, I think.

The silver coming in does seem to complement my hair color . If I had dark color hair, I'm not sure it would work as well. Also, this is one time when my very curly hair has been a plus, as the distinction between roots and coloring are more muted.

I think by the time that I might feel comfortable going back, I might not want to. It certainly would be nice not to have that expense every five or six weeks.

@mintedrose So sorry you had to go through this. You could definitely go back to shop & talk to a manager about what you need to make it right. Also don't understand the other actions of the stylist & manager definitely needs to be told about that!

If you were my client maybe a color close to the rest of your hair?Yes the bleach was not left on long enough or was not strong enough as it has to pull color out of the hair and it quit too soon or was rinsed out too soon.It always helps to just check an area to see how its looking before rinsing.

You will still have fading if you put color back on as bleach wants to kick it out but just use toner or a rinse if worried about damage.Color  not hi lift color can feel good on the hair especially compared to bleach and will make you feel better about it.

Let us know how it goes and good luck.

Orange means she didn't leave the bleach on long enough to take out all the color.  Call the store owner/manager and see if someone else can fix it.

I had a bad experience with color many years ago.  I was going to the same person for a while and always liked the color my hair came out.  Decided to go a little lighter blonde for the summer.  I'm a pretty dark blonde.  Came out looking like Madonna when she had the short, short very blonde hair.  I paid her, don't know why and neve returned.  Found a color specialiast to go to.  Under my hair, the nape of my neck, she said the color was almost green.  It took 2 days and 2 color specialists to fix it.

I also had the perm from hell once!  I asked for a body wave and ended up looking like Shirley Temple.  Okay if you're 5, not when you're 30.  The next time I needed a perm I bought one from Sally Supply and had my husband do it.  It turned out perfect!  Not bad for a truck driver.  My husband has done my perms ever since. Malibu C Hard Water Shampoo 266mL - i-glamour.com

I have had good luck with  malibu swimmers -hard water and the conditioners, it helps get your hair back to normal. It tames down the orange and green colors. Hard water is hard on hair too and changes colors.
