I opened the second email address in Dec 2016 and I just checked it on March 1, 2017.........I did a mass delete of 3214 emails all ads and sales annoucments.
I deleted the spam folder too, but I did not get an exact count on the emails in there (I think it was around 400).
Some sites were emailing me once a day with a sale or offer, some 2 twice a day!!!!
This has been hugely helpful in cleaning up my other email account, thank you!
I'm so confused, a second e-mail account isn't necessary if you didn't enter your own e-mail account, that is voluntary. Also, if indeed you wanted sale ads and promotions, I would go into your second account at least several times a week to see what kind of offers you are getting, not check 3 months later?
This just does not make sense as to why your friend suggested another e-mail account. Seems like a lot of work for nothing....you are the one soliciting these e-mails.
Maybe a junk email isn't necessary for you but it is necessary for me and everyone I know or have ever know. Everyone has more than one email for the very reason that OP spoke of. She had over 3000 because she didn't check it for so long but I check mine once a week or so and I have hundreds of emails and offers and 90% are from sites I never visited and never requested anything from. The problem is that when you request info or visit a site and give your email address, they pass it all along to others. If have a email address for junk, you can juts go through it quickly and delete everything. You don't have to worry that you might be deleting something important. You don't have to read any of, you can just delet.

I'd say that 95% of the time I don't provide an email address. If a site "needs" me to register before accessing them, it's a given that they're mining for email addresses to sell, I don't care what they claim.
There's very little I need online THAT much; I just back out and don't go to the site. My pet peeve is businesses who advertise on FB and when you click on them, you can't enter or even see what they sell without giving them your email address. They will never get my business. I don't need them, they need me. Feh.

I agree and nor should you.... but using a throw away for those sites where they won't let you browse or read their articles without signing in and you still want to browse or read ... then that's what it's for....

I use three email accounts – one for ordering, one for junk (to sign up for things, like the grocery store special discounts), and one for personal use. Of course, the junk one is full of junk. I only go there occasionally to clear it out. It pays to have separate accounts. For instance, in the junk account I get scam emails (that look very real) supposedly from Amazon or PayPal telling me something is wrong with my order. I never use that email for ordering so I know immediately that it’s a scam.
