I am very sorry for your loss. I lost my best friend in a car accident many years ago, on Mother's Day. She was only 22 years old. The pain was relentless, I even cried in my sleep. It took me a few years before I could think with happiness about our times together. No one ever took her place.

Im so sorry for your loss. I totally understand what you're feeling. I lost my best friend before Christmas, not as suddenly as your friend, but had a week r so before. Yes, it's awful, nothing seems right anymore!

Its better and will get better for you too, but my gosh, we need time. No emails, no texts, no lunch no movies no call....no NOTHING. It's so empty and after the shock wore off, I realized I had to reorganize my life so I'm not mourning her everyday. I got used to going to restaurants, movies all by myself and my iPhone to keep me entertained instead of conversation.

Can we ever say goodbye?  When we lose someone we love, a goodbye, a hug, a kiss, just isn't really enough.  What we need is more time!

So although you couldn't say goodbye, your special bond exists.  Your friend sees your pain, and although you can't see or touch her she is with you and watching over you.  Talk to her. Ask her for assistance in some minor everyday thing, e.g., if you've misplaced you keys, ask for her help finding them.  Talk a little at  time and in time, you'll be sure she's by your side in spirit.

You might offer your support and love to her mom who feels just like you do.  When my daughter died in a traffic accident a little while ago, her best friends were so sweet to me, still text me regularly and we support each other. It has been great for all 3 of us.  This huge hole in your heart will not go away but you will, over the years, add happiness and joyous occasions to it that your friend would be so very happy about if she was here.  Over time, you will  learn to live with this loss, your happy memories will be strong and it will not seem so overwhelming. I am so sorry you have had this happen.
