I was out back in the yard throwing a ball for my dogs...on the way in I tripped on a step on my deck....fell HARD on my left shoulder. I knew it was not good....
I dislocated My shoulder. The. First time for me. The pain is pretty bad! DH drove me to the ER. Check in was fast and easy as it is our regular Doctor / Hospital just down the road that we use. They have all our information so we did not have to spend time giving them any info. I only had to wait about 5 minutes in the waiting room until I was taken to a regular examination room.
X-rays taken of the arm and shoulder. . nothing broken thank goodness! Really nice ER attendants and Doctor. The. Nicest people! The doctor who put my shoulder back in place said he does it all the time, in fact he had a dislocated shoulder just yesterday. He was very gentle and it felt much better as he was pulling on my arm slowly getting the shoulder back in place. They gave me an arm sling to wear.
I was in my PJ's when it happened...so all I did was put on pull up pants and wore the PJ top I already had on. ( An old Seahawks jersey). My hair looked like ******...no makeup... that was probably the worse part😄
Now I Just have week or two of healing to do. I will start PT when they suggest I start. I have an appointment with a shoulder specialist DR this Friday. I am just glad it was not my right shoulder. I am right handed. It will be an inconvenience for sure, nothing more......just glad it was not worse.
Worse thing you can do after 60 is fall down...... I just need to slow down and be more careful. Another lesson learned
.
Great start to February! A trip to the ER was not what I had planned 🤕🙀 but so thankful for Nurses and Doctors and the good care I received. I feel very fortunate ❤️

@SeaMaiden Take good care of yourself and definitley do PT when ready. You should heal just fine. We all do things like that and wish we could take them back right after it happens. Thankfully you didn't break anything and... it was your LEFT shoulder.
I think many of us need to slow down a bit even if we still feel 30 or 40 years younger than our actual age... what's the rush???? This coming from a TYPE A ...!

Oh my, that's a very unpleasant experience, but thank goodness it wasn't worse. Hope you have a speedy, uncomplicated recovery.

@SeaMaiden I'm sorry about your shoulder, It must really hurt? My son has a shoulder that does that and he just pops it back into place when it happens. He's grimacing when he does it,Take care!

Good luck with your recovery. I am sure it was a painful experience. I am glad that you are going to do PT when your Dr. gives the ok.
My right leg has been bothering me for a couple of weeks. Couldn't walk at all on Friday, a bit better each day and I have no idea what is going on. Other than old age. I was so happy to be another year older last Friday. Today I was able to go to the gym.

@SeaMaiden So sorry to hear about your mishap. It goes to show you that all that good, clean living has kept your bones in good shape. No break!
I have to ask, did your dogs come running to you when you went down? It probably scared them unless they thought it was part of the "game".
Get well soon.........I know you will.
All the best my friend.
Tends~

@SeaMaiden ---so lucky that you didn't break anything!! Which hospital did you go to? I broke my ankle in Oct last year and ended up at Evergreen in Kirkland--was there for almost 10 hours---the people were great but still was a very long ordeal----had many scans and xrays---yes, we folks over 60 do not bounce very well. Take care---

Hoping you get better soon and you get back to normal. I know about the shoulder thing. I've been haveing issues with my right shoulder for a couple of months, of course, I'm right handed. Limited use, but othr pressing medical issues need attending to first. Good luck with your PT.
