I think anyone in the military should be honored both days because many people who served in the military would still come home carrying the memory of someone who didn't come home.
I remember when there would be more flags flying on both days.

Saying 'I'm honoring all military, living or not' just waters down
the importance of the dead who served our country.
I would never, ever congratulate & cheer at a funeral.
Today is 'the funeral' for the military who are not breathing.
The military who are breathing have the other 364 days + their life
to celebrate the importance of their service.
Just one day is all the dead is asking.
Is that too hard?

Walgreens has a tv commercial wishing "happy Memorial Day" to all our veterans. Ugh, just so wrong.
It's a somber holiday, well it used to be.

@Hooty, thanks so much!!
I just was wondering, on what day are we suppose to honor the Veterans who are no longer with us who did not die in service?
Maybe to say I honor both on both was inappropriate, I honor and respect them every single day but both are days of rememberance for me.

I know the difference but it was nice of you to post the difference.

In the 1950s I lived on the outer edge of Silver Spring Me suburbs and there were still a few small farms and wooded areas near our tract home. We had a neat "swimming" hole at an abandoned Victorian hotel, Carroll Spring Inn. Their swimming pool was full of seasonal runoff (and tadpoles, frogs and water moccasins). Our parents warned against going there to play, so of course we did (but not swim; we weren't brain dead). I fondly remember the tadpoles eggs that I would bring to school. Sadly several years later the whole thing was covered over and more homes were built.

I doubt that there's anyone who doesn't know that, it think it's part of the third grade curriculum.
