Good Morning, it's 9:30 am here and I'm writing to let you know that at 9:15 this morning, I released Rocky to his friends and family.

I went overboard on birdseed on the patio to draw some of the neighborhood pigeons to my property.  Between the ducks, squirrels and all of the other birds that eat here, breakfast time can get competitive.

I watched the skies from 8am and waited.  When some pigeons gathered on the electric lines above my neighbors yard, I propped open the storm door, called to the birds and then left the room.  I needed the pigeons to come and eat while the door was wide open.

I saw two pigeons eating and others nearby so I picked up Rocky and Grayson and took them both downstairs to the family room.  It was important to me that Grayson understand where Rocky went.  Rocky saw the outdoors and at one point it almost looked like Grayson was trying to herd Rocky out of the house, lol.

Rocky's tail was trembling a little so I called Grayson to me and let Rocky approach the doorway on his own.  Rocky walked out on the step then joined the other birds on the patio.  Grayson followed and both were cooing and fluffling up around the other birds, asserting their manly-ness.

That told me Rocky was picking up bad habits from Grayson, lol.

I watched for a couple of minutes then I heard a noise like a car door slamming (from one of my neighbor's in their driveway).  All of the birds, including Rocky flew off.

The saddest part was seeing Grayson try to fly as if to say, hey friend, wait for me.  I was crying by then and picked Grayson up and said, c'mon little man, it's time to clear out the rehab room and get our house back to normal.

I want to thank all of you for supporting me through this.  I firmly believe that God or St Francis sends these creatures my way even if I don't always understand what the lesson is supposed to be for me.

Here are two pictures of Rocky - day one (least graphic photo I have) and then a day or two ago.

@Bird mama

Sorry for not seeing your post sooner.  I got goose bumps while reading it.  You did the right thing and you knew the right time to do it.  Way to go birdmama!  I was so happy to hear that Rocky came back with the others.  Rocky definitely knows that your house is a safe haven and I am certain that he/she will always remember you.  I liked that you included Grayson in Rocky's release.  Have a great weekend birdmama!!!

As for snakes, I am terrified of them and won't even touch a handbag that immitates snake skin.....lol.  I am really bad.  Can't even watch them on TV.

Re: May 2016 Bird's Nest

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone!  We were promised rain for the last two days.  Yesterday, it drizzled for a bit during the night, today nothing so far.

Yesterday was a nice grey, cool day, so the pups and I spent it in the kitchen, always gobs of work to do in there.  I lit three different scented candles from Swan Creek Candle Co., the scents are wonderful and the throw fantastic.  It was so cozy.  I put Places in the Heart in the player,  and after that Rosemary's Baby, and went about sorting and clearing clutter, will attack it again today.  Normally, I play old sitcoms, not movies, those I save for nighttime, but just felt like seeing or listening to those as I don't relaly watch except for a glance now and then.

If anyone is interested, the scents so far that are my favorites from Swan Creek, free shipping on orders over $50.00, and no tax, and the jars can be used for canning or storing whatever in, I always choose Homespun are they have character, not just plain jars, are:  Gingerbread,  Dutch Apple Pie (fantastic for Fall and Christmas) Pineapple Vanilla Sugar, Warm Cinnamon Buns, , Spiced Orange and Cinnamon, and Fresh Strawberry.  There are small sample jars available, so just ordered Pumpkin Vanilla, Coconut and Lime and Pomegranate & Blood Orange to try in the sample jars.  Be sure you go to the company because when I google, the first that comes up is the title, but it is a different company, which is listed under the title.

I lit the sample jar of Pineapple Vanilla Sugar yesterday and left it in the den to see what it smelled like and the throw, didn't want it lost in the kitchen with the other scents going, and it was fantastic, could smell it down the hall on the way to the bedroom, so got online and ordered two large jars of it, and the samples.

Many little plants and roses arrived in the last two evenings so are waiting on the deck to be potted, so will do that tomorrow in between supervising DH on his garden projects.

Tonight, I will be making sweet cherry peppers, only can find these at Trader Joe's, stuffed with fresh parmesan, which is the cheese when it is young before it becomes hard, only can find it at Costco in the Spring, with a vinaigrette poured over and baked until the cheese melts, with crusty french bread for sopping, and a light green salad.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. Smiley Happy

Well, it just hit me that I didn't post a bird of the day yesterday.  Okay, maybe Rocky was the bird of the day, lol.

@Bird mama  What a wonderful story!

Bernie, your heartfelt efforts to rehab Rocky, who is one lucky pigeon to have had you to nurse him back to good health, was my feel good story of the week  & Rocky has to definitely be bird of the week!

it was so interesting the methods you used to help him & when I read your post that he had actually returned, I gave a big ya-hoo.  That brought tears to my eyes after reading all you had done to help him.

it has to just feel so rewarding & fill you w/joy that you gave him his second chance.

thank you so very much for sharing this story.  I'm going to further share it w/my friend who has not been feeling so well.  We both love birds & she had introduced me to the Cornell labs bird cams where we watched their heron cams for a couple years until the herons abandoned the nest.

wait until she hears about you & Rocky!  🌼

@possummink

Did you head off to Florida on Friday?  I hope the trip was uneventful and that you caught up on your sleep.

@Bird mama  I think I read a few posts which stated that Rocky came back, is this so, or am I dreaming?

@mousiegirl

Because I feed all year long, the pigeon population knows me.  Yesterday, while I was watching Gunsmoke (between 1pm and 2pm) a group of 6 or 7 pigeons came by to eat and Rocky was among them.

No sightings today.  We had rain, the temps dropped just a little and it was breezy.  Suffice it to say, I couldn't help but think - geez is he cold?  Where is he perching and sleeping, lol.
