First let me say MANY MANY THANK YOU'S AND ADIVSE FOR ME. I APPRECIATE EACH AND EVERY ONE. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
Now for the update. My fractures were severe according to the doctor. As a result they were not healing, so I had surgery yesterday 2/28. I had to have the plates and screws on both sides of my ankle. I am home now and doing very well. Besides the general anesthsia the doc gives an injection behind the knee that numbs from the knee down and lasts for 18 or more hours. So far this morning my lower leg and foot is still numb. So I have no pain. I am not allowed any weightbearing on my foot for at least 5 weeks.
I have my first follow up appointment on the 5th.
As of now I use a wheelchair and it is my friend. I got a booster seat for the comode and that helps tremenously. As for showers or bath's I cant get the dressing wet so I wont have to worry about that for a while. I do sponge bath's for now. Not great but better than nothing.
My surgical team was the best and I thanked God for them. And I thank God for my hubby he built a temporary ramp over our porch steps and has wheeled me when needed, makes sure Im fed and have what I need. I think he is more tired than I am.

{{{{{{{ @Imaoldhippie }}}}}}} OW! i am so sorry for what you are enduring and hope you heal well and have support in the meantime.
After my broken shoulder when i couldnt get nursing help to take a bath or shower for 4 weeks, i found Pipa Mint XL Shower wipes for Cleansing Bathing No Rinse on Amazon a total lifesaver.

I'm sorry you are having to go through this! As miserable as it is, 5 weeks is the beginning of April. Hopefully both you and the weather will be much better!

@Imaoldhippie ---I can relate to each and every point you made about this unfortunate adventure---all was the same with my broken ankle too. Just hoping you have pain meds for when the shot wears off--all I can say is---YIKES---you will need them. I got a wheel chair too--was the best thing ever--and the toilet seat--the highest one they make as this toilet is a hobbits sized one---I had a splint on my leg after surgery so used the leg condom to shower when I could and once after the post op appt got told I could let the water run down my leg during a shower--think that was about 2 weeks out-- had steri strips over the stitches-- but had the shower stool to use. I didn't get a cast on mine---but was put into a boot---oh just wait for the bruising in living color to happen----the oddest purples and greens and yellows----so sorry for all this---and hurray for your hubby!!!

I was wondering how you were doing, @Imaoldhippie.
That numbing technique was so helpful with my second knee replacement.
Q sells some cloths for cleaning up without water. Maybe someone will remember the name.
