I am beginning to think this is a fee they are only charging their new credit card customers and that is why older customers like me are not seeing it. I would never tolerate being charged a fee like that and would drop them like a hot potatoe for taking advantage of customers that way. You have to learn to play the game with these credit card shysters. I am going to buy my grandsons one of those expensive battery operated ride on toys for his birthday. Toys R Us offers a 15% discount off your first purchase if you open a credit card with them so I applied on line tonight and was approved. As soon as I make the purchase and get the discount I will immediately pay off the purchase by going into the store and paying it and as soon as the first bill arrives I will have a zero balance. Then I will cancel the card. Your credit score actually takes a hit,for having a lot of "retail" (store) credit cards even if you do not have a balance on them and there is no negative effect on your credit score from closing a account as long as you still have other non store credit cards that you have open and use regularly. Cut that Macy's card in half and send it back telling them you are closing your account because of the $2.00 a month fee. If enough people would do that they might stop charging it.

I wonder if your state has an interest rate restriction on credit card companies and if this service fee is how they get around that? Department store cards have very high rates. I think these credit card companies really rob us when you can barely get a savings account at 1%
Could this be the case? @homedecor1

I read or saw something about this I will try to find it, or the OP could try a search for it. Might have been a TV story. If I didn't need the card I would close it.

I have to confess that I have not watched my Macy's card lately, but I also buy sometimes then don't buy for a while.
The card I have been really annoyed by is the TARGET RED CARD. I have had nothing but trouble with it, and have had no luck in straightening the trouble out. At present, I am not registered as HAVING a Target Ed Card, although there are actually THREE in my possession.
If you use one successfully, be sure to check your credit rating, and buying history EVERY TIME you receive a bill.

Hmmm. I opened a Macy's card about 3 months ago because they were offering extra savings for new charges that day. I charged what I bought to get the savings, went on-line and paid the bill in full as soon as I got the statement and I've never received another statement from them so I'm assuming I've not been charged this $2.00 per month.
