I haven't read anyone offering to pay their dorm fees or get them an off campus apartment to avoid the inconvenience of having a grandchild live with you.
I worked my tail off to put DS thru college on my own. I'd do it again in a minute.

It is great that your grandson feels comfortable enough with you to stay with you. What a great bonding opportunity for you both. I'm sure concessions will be necessary on both sides for a harmonious experience. Time flies by and what great memories he will have shared with you and always have in his heart. My son's townhome burned down a few months ago and they lost everything. My son,his wife and two daughters and their dog moved in with us as we live in the same school district. This way the girls were able to remain in their schools. With interest rates increasing and the cost of homes we are not sure how long they will be with us. We respect their privacy and they respect ours. I will miss them when they move. When issues arise he is an adult, talk to him as one and not as a parent scolding a child. Have patience and this could be e rewarding experience for you all.

I get it. My daughter died 14 years ago. Her son means the world to me. This year he spent 2 weeks with us at our lake home. For the first time in his life I was angry with him. He 15, didn't clean up his area upon leaving as I asked and apparently NaNa still has an attitude. Hubs and I will and have taken a bullit for him but I'm over teaching and raising. Love him and I need peace , quiet and clean now......lol

@bonnielu ....The tuition could be the reason.
I have a divorced friend that when his son went to college the first year was out of state but the next year the son became a resident of the state (where the other parent lived) and his tuition costs went down dramatically.

He is staying there 4 days a week not 7 days. Isn't he on campus most of the time, or out with friends? The only rules that I would come down hard on is no food in his bedroom, take care of his laundry and call if he is going to be late coming in so that I do not worry. I'm sure that he helps you out when he is living with you.
The years pass so quickly and helping him with a free place to stay while he is in college is worth the small aggravations that come with having an 18 year old in your home. I am sure that one day you will miss him not being there.

@bonnielu. In my experience it is not that simple to get resident tuition. An in state address is not enough. We had to prove we had in state driver's licenses and were asked to show tax returns!
