@Kachina624 wrote:@suzyQ3 The police and CPS work very closely together. If the police arrive and see the situation the OP describes, in most jurisdictions they'd automatically involve CPS.
@Kachina624, my thinking is that the police would assess the situation and do what's necessary. If that involves CPS, then of course they should get involved.

Terrifying to say the least.

As long as you have anonymity, call the police. The children are likely endangered on several levels...verbal, and possibly physical, abuse as well as an environment that is likely a health danger. If they're true hoarders, there may well be bugs and other vermin the children are exposed to. Calling the police would probably get the fastest response.

Call the police first. They have more authority than social service agencies, and can act more quickly.

Have you seen the children? Just wondering if you can gauge the age and if they look uncared for. I used to live near people who it was just their way of life that they were loud people. There was no abuse there but they did not know how to talk in any other tones but very loud and they would be out in the yards talking very loudly or yelling if you will. It was very annoying but there was nothing abusive or illegal going on that I could see. However, if these noises sound like people screaming, crying, things being thrown, etc, and these things are happening into the night, you should definitely call police and ask them if they can do some type of wellness check. It would be good to make sure that everyone is o.k., especially children. And if these things are going on late at night, and nobody is in danger, the police could tell them to please keep the noise level down after a certain time as they are disturbing the peace and could be cited.

if they're raising such a terrible ruckus--and it sounds like they are, including the kids--call the cops, if not for nothing more than a "welfare check" rather than causing a disturbance.
And for God's sake, do NOT let the cops tell them who called them. If they find out it was you, your lives could be a living hell and you might even be in danger.
Good luck to you.

I certainly wouldn't do nothing, especially with children in that house. That's like seeing smoke come out of the windows and doing nothing. I'd call the police when I heard yelling, screaming, fighting. I'd also call CPS since it's not a single incident. I certainly would not offer to babysit. LOL. What good would anyone who lives in that house? Also you shouldn't become mixed up in whatever is going on in that house.
