Re: Litter boxes - how many?

5 cats; 3 litter boxes. Works perfectly and we're all happy with that.

Re: Litter boxes - how many?

We have 5 cats and 5 boxes. Three are covered for privacy; two are open. Some of ours like the covered one, and some are afraid of it and like the open ones.

We make sure they're clean every day, scooping and adding fresh litter. They get a complete cleaning every 5 days or so.

Lots of work - but they're worth it!  Smiley Wink

Makes things so much easier.

I don't think I could have cats any more, if I had to do the litter box thing every day.  (Been there, done that.)

@Lucky Charm  Been a fan since LR was invented.  I am on gen 3 for my 1 cat.  Same cat for all 3 LR.

I have never used "litter boxes."  YUK!  I've always had "automatic" hooded kitty boxes.

I'm also lazy.  I even have "automatic" feeders.

@Mz iMac Same!  Do yours look like astronauts?  I love the automatic feeders.  Big thumbs up!

I personally won’t own a little robot. I haven’t heard of problems with the original and most expensive litter robot brand however, there are many generic brands out there that have been linked to cat injuries and death because they were trapped in the mechanism.

One cat. One box.

@bikerbabe   I agree with you on that ,  if it malfunctions and no one is home my cats could get injured or worse so no way !!   I will do old school and remove by hand with that sifter thing !

Aww, @Kitty Galore,  our sweet "elder cats" are all the more precious to us, aren't they!  Your Bailee lived a long, long life in his loving home...

@Oznell    Yes definitely he was very precious to us we had him from 10 weeks old and was the sweetest boy ever !   We did the best we could ,  but eventually we had to,realize his quailty of life was no longer there .  It was very hard parting with him ,  but we loved him enough to let him go .  He had a long life with lots of love .

we have adopted elderly cats and they are such sweethearts !    They are so grateful to have a home !   People tend to walk past the older pets everyone wants a kitten.   We have certainly had kittens too that  found there way in our home one way or another.

How many cats do you have and how many litter boxes?  I had three cats at one time so  three litter boxes.  Then when one died and I had two cats I still had three litter boxes.  (My house is two floors.). Three plus years ago when one of my cats died I kept the three litter boxes.  Last cat died, got another still have three litter boxes lol.  He uses all three.  The funny thing is my stepson has three cats and only one - very large - litter box.

@FranandZoe

Interesting thread.

Years ago, I had a neighbor with one cat and he'd bring him over for a scheduled play date with my cat Bogey.

Since he'd be over for a few hours, I'd bring out the Guest Litter Box in case he needed to use it.   (Those flat temporary trays that Cats Pride makes).

A couple minutes into the visit, I'd pick up the kitty and place him in the litter box tray, just so he was clear it was his to use if he needed it.

I didn't want Bogey to ever have to share his litter box with a casual acquaintance.

@Tinkrbl44 how sweet a kitty play date !    I agree your Bogey shouldn't  have to share his litter  box with the guest .  Cats are a bit  territorial with there litter boxes I have found.
