Has this happened to anyone?

When woke up this morning my right knee is suddenly making a clicking or popping sound when I walk.  It's kind of loud....someone next to me could certainly hear it but it doesn't hurt.  It's annoying and I'm concerned about what it might be.  If it doesn't go away in a day or so I'll have to see a doctor.

I just want to add that I'll be 64 this month and I'm a bit out of shape and about 30 lbs. overweight. I know that losing should only help my knees which can sometimes hurt a bit when going up and down stairs.

@haddon9@If it doesn’t hurt and isn’t swollen it is probably just an age thing.Most people I know have some kind of popping or clicking sounds.It doesn’t hurt to get it checked out though.

@dex . No thank goodness it doesn't hurt but it seems so loud not to mention annoying!

@haddon9 By all means you should see a doctor if that makes you feel better, but given your age it's probably a little arthritis which most older adults have even if they are in the best shape of their life in their golden years.  Even pro athletes and dancers aren't excluded from the aches of aging. There's no need to fear that it's anything more severe than that unless the pain worsens over time to a degree that it hurts all the time and affects simple everyday movements.  When my knees first began to feel achy I was in my 40s (a bit early, but serious dancing had been a major off time hobby of mine for years, so my legs had taken a more than normal pounding up to that point). Eventually I had to have replacement, but it was more than ten years later.  I think you are lucky that you are feeling your first aches in your mid-60s Woman Wink

My DH and I are both 64. DH’s knee does the same thing and was told it’s arthritis. He exercises and uses a prescription gel which seems to help. The doctor also described a stronger Tylenol-like pill.

@OKPrincess @Trix

Thanks for your comments!

I'll have to mention and ask about the gel when I see my doctor.  I hope it could help me too.

My knees have actually been bothering me off and on for about 10 years...mostly when I go up and down stairs.  I had a couple of bad falls when I was younger so I'm sure that doesn't help and I probably do have some arthritis.

You’re welcome. The generic name is Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel.

@haddon9, I think you'll be ok.  The presciption gel @OKPrincess is terrific.  Only one of my knees has been replaced, but still hurts, and the other knee is severely arthritic. I use a topical rx gel in addition to oral pain control.  I may not be pain-free, but I firmly believe the gel makes it possible for me to continue to dance!
