Re:  Your dad --

THAT IS a sad story .. very sad indeed.

I understand why your dad was stubborn >>> He thought he'd chosen "the best".  But "the best" turned out to be not so good, nor kind.

I asked my surgeon if the left side of my knee (yes, the knee that was replaced) was numb because of where I fell and instead of answering my question, he just became LIVID.

Why get angry?  I fell.  It's over.  The question is, where do we go from here?   (No answer ....)

ANYWAY, your dad's story is horrible.  I'm so sorry to hear that happened to him.  Unfortunately, that's a problem that can occur when you have Drs. who are egomaniacs and think they're the next greatest thing to G*d.  They think they don't make mistakes and they won't correct them!

I've had "botched" surgeries before and sometimes they do have to be done over again.  Unfortunately, there's never any guarantee that you'll ever be "as good as new".  Sometimes you end up worse off and you just have to live with it.

Re: Knee Replacement Dilemma-Need Another Dr.

@RinaRina,

Yes I was a hospital employee; the last years of my employment were spent providing clerical support services to hospital administration, mainly the Director of Nursing.   My boss supervised all of the nursing unit supervisors, so I am quite familiar with patient complaints; who to report them to, and the way to report them for a positive outcome.

In your situation, I feel you should have immediately asked to speak directly to the nursing unit supervisor about your dissatisfactions.  In the facility where I worked, this person is an RN, BSN, who is part of hospital administration, not a floor nurse.   It is this persons job to address patient complaints and resolve them; working with the information provided by the patient, and information provided by her staff.   Only the most complex situations are ever taken, by her, to the Director of Nursing, or above that level to the CEO.

In my opinion, once you received a copy of your complaint and saw that it did not even mention your unwitnessed fall,  you should have calmly discussed it with the nursing unit manager, and asked that the incident form be corrected.  Falls are serious business in a hospital, and staff are trained to make sure patient areas are safe.  Obviously your fall was a result of patient error, not hospital negligence.   I think the whole process would have gone smoother if you had taken the right steps initially.

As I remember, you consulted an attorney, as well as filing a report with the State Board of Nursing over the incident.   My dealings with the WV State Board of Nursing office was to verify all Nursing licenses yearly and submit all necessary documentation from our facility if a nurse was fired for a serious infraction.   I think you were wrong to report the nurse involved in your incident to the State.  If you had a problem with her, it should have been directed to, and handled by, her unit supervisor.   I think you created a lot of unnecessary drama that has ultimately reflected poorly on you.

Most of the OPs threads go this way. It's always someone else's fault, whatever "it" is. Posters give their opinions, not all of which are complimentary. Then hysteria ensues. It's not new, and not restricted to this issue.

I think  something is off. I have never heard of any PCP ,that tells someone  ,they must  choose a certain surgeon, and no one else
