My kitchen faucet is dripping, and getting really difficult to move back and forth...we had it fixed a few years ago, but now it needs replaced. It has lasted about 10-12 years.
I don't recall the lifespan of faucets but can someone recommend a good brand?
We were told by the plumber not to purchase from the big box stores, but I no longer have the website he gave me to purchase from...the plumber is no longer in business so I cannot contact him.
Any suggstions? Thanks

Delta - last for decades! At least 1/2 century.
"We were told by the plumber not to purchase from the big box stores"
Why not?

Top-of-the-line faucets can run you upwards towards $800 or more just for the parts. You'll need to look for one in your price range. Pricing is all over the place.
I like Delta.

I've always had Delta faucets in the kitchen. Also Moen and Koeher are good names.
Personally, I would never buy any appliances, etc. from a big box store. I don't know if you want to purchase solely from an on-line store but with an independent brick and motar retail store I think you get better service and sometimes better products. If you can't remember the web name your plumber told you, just look for any independent retail store that sells plumbing and heating supplies or supplies plumbers. A lot of places that sell to the trade will also sell to the public.

I don't know where you live, but you should look for a plumbing supply company. Your plumber was right. Places like Home Depot and Lowes negotiate with the big manufacturing companies to make their products with inferior parts, so that they can sell them for lower prices. Example: Faucets made by big name suppliers, sold at Home Depot and Lowes are produced by these manufacturers with inside plastic parts as opposed to metal parts found sold in the Plumbing Supply Companies. So, a Moen, Delta or other brand name faucet sold at Home Depot or Lowes is NOT the same Moen, Delta, or other faucet sold at a Plumbing Supply Company. Though they may look alike, they are NOT the same. The item numbers are DIFFERENT, and so is the product and its quality!!
Reason I know is because my nephew is a licensed plumber. He showed me the comparisons of the insides of the Home Depot/Lowes faucets and the Plumbing Supply faucets by the same manufacturers when I was purchasing (upgrading) for my kitchen and bathroom sinks. Big difference in quality.
Sometimes the big manufacturers are sneaky too. The plumbing supply company might have the item/model direct from the manufacturer on the box listed as: Item/model# 123456... and the same looking item at Lowes may have the item/model number listed on the box as 123456A. That capital A makes it the version (inferior) used and sold by the big box stores.

@Mom2Dogs OH! I feel your pain. We went through the same problem about a year ago.
Went to Lowe's. And looked at the large display of kitchen faucets. Was shocked that a number of faucets on display looked broken. Did not want to buy any of them. A clerk came up to us, and asked if we needed help. We said that we had a Delta leaky faucet.
He said that the faucet we had was made better than anything on display. He recommended that we buy a replacement kit. The kit was a washer and ball that fit in the handle of the faucet Lowe's had a "universal" replacement kit that we bought.
Installed it and it still leaked.
Went to Home Depot and they had a Delta replacement kit, made by Delta. It worked great.
Forgot what brand the Lowe's clerk told us to steer clear. It had to do with pulling down of the faucet head. One company has a magnet and the hand held part goes nicely back into place. Another company doesn't have that feature and with wear causes problems going back into the faucet.

You are spot on! Exactly what I was thinking but couldn't get the wording right. While model numbers may be the same there is a different number or letter somewhere that differentiates big box store products from those at the independent retailers.

Delta is good, they also offer factory refurbished on their site. They should offer a sale on Memorial Day weekend.
KOHLER is great but has become very high end. I'm currently liking Kingston Brass. They have their own website and their clearance shows up on Wayfair.
Know what you need. Deck mount, flush mount, centerset, high arc, number of holes, etc.
HD and Lowe's offer mostly made for them low end supplies. You don't need a plumber, a handyman will do.

Delta's the only brand to buy according to our plumber. The last four we have bought were reconditioned from the Delta Web Page and we saved a bundle and no issues with them.
For the kitchen? The only way to go is a touch faucet! No free hand? No problem. No clean hand? No problem. Best thing we've bought in recent years.
