Hi Lilac Tree,
It is very sad to see these atrocities happening daily to many of these people. Seems as though isis is trying to find more torturous ways to kill people with ever execution they commit.
In my opinion, there is only 1 way to stop them, and it will never happen by sitting down at a negotiating table. To believe you could rationalize with mad men/women, bent on killing all they consider to be "infidels", there is only 1 way these barbarians will let them live.
I believe in, "fight them there are fight them here", and until I see them being eliminated, I do not see that changing.
Were I the man sitting in the BIG house?

Too stressful? So, being an uninformed adult is somehow better for our country?
If watching full news shows is not desirable, then get a summary of the day's events ...... being clueless is not the answer ..... imo.

If you are not content, you can make a choice to select someone who will do things differently. Every time someone is voted into office, it is you and I who have exerted control over how things will be done.

I so agree!!! Voters - please fully examine the candidate's resume, experience and future goals for this country. Just because someone is the "first" of anything would never be a reason to get my vote!!

I almost started a thread like this the other day because after reading the news online, I thought, wow, this world is getting worse quickly! all the killings, bombings, rapes, cheating, etc. it's endlessly depressing. and then you read celebrity news and it's just as bad. I give up on the news. being oblivious to current events sounds appealing these days. much as we keep wishing for it, peace in this world is never going to happen. my opinion alone.

I have never been a hawk, but the only thing that's going to work to get rid of them is to bomb them out of existence, and it shouldn't be just us doing so. Hopefully most of the poor Syrian population can get out of there first, but with the element of surprise needed to do this, that doesn't seem likely.
You're right, there's absolutely no way to "negotiate" with these murderous jackals.

I totally agree with both of John's posts. Very well said John and I think your age and years here on earth are reflected in your posts regarding this issue. I mean that in a good way. I, too, am an advocate for doing what you can for animals and people and then pray for the rest and vote, yes, but realize that its often the same. The Who song comes into mind, "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".
I often try to put a positive spin on things like the Syrian issue. It brings home very hard how fourtunate, blessed, and favored we are to live in this country. Yes, we have crime and much horror but really, not like some other countries. We can reach up and turn on a light, have a roof over our head, feel safe in our homes, eat hearty and shop till we drop. Our government allows us freedom and justice, much more than some other countries do.
We do what we can and donate, help and support many less than fortunate people and animals. When I'm on FB and see an animal abused, rather than curse the abuser I thank God for men and women who rescue and help these poor animals. For every abuser, God provides a caretaker times 2 or 3!

To @gmkb's and @corita's remarks, I wanted to add a helpful website. It's called "Project Vote Smart" and it's entirely non-partisan.

I stopped watching the news months ago. Sometimes, when I see a particular headline, I'm surprised at what I've missed. But, I'm also a lot more peaceful.
I can't do anything about this crazy world. My only concern is that my little corner of this world, and my family, are as happy and safe as possible.

Sorry hcknynutjohn, but I respectfully disagree with you. Your one vote added to 99 others increases that number to 100 votes. Every vote counts, including yours. There have been many elections where a different candidate would have won if everyone who was eligible had voted.

gmkb,
I did say that I voted and have always voted. I worked Election Commitee 6 times, 2 of which were Presidential Elections. Again, I would like to see every eligible voter, vote. Have said here adnauseum that i am also a realist and have been since i was 14 years old.
Realistically do I think my 1 vote will change the outcome of any Election? No I do not. Mathmatically do I think my 1 vote will change the outcome of any Election? No I do not. Do I think my 1 vote hypothetically could change the outcome of any Election? Of course I do.
When one chooses a hypothesis over realism, any and everything is possible. I personally prefer living in my world of realism as opposed to a hypothetical one. Everyone can choose "their world" and that is as it should be.
I respectfully agree to disagree.Any time the word "if" or the words "if only"are inserted into a discussion?
