My mother always emphasized looking presentable when you go out, no matter what.

I usually did that.

Once ... just once .... I ran to the grocery store in the midst of a painting project.   Sloppy sweats and hair all over the place.   No one would see me.  

Well, I ended up in the grocery checkout line with the handsome, single Mark Harmon in front of me.  He had just started on St Elsewhere, and was even better looking in real life.  

I would have liked to say hello, but my mother would have been horrified if I told her what I'd done!  LOL

@89135 , thank you for the smile.  It's so true for me especially when I'm at home.  I TRY to look decent when I'm at home - I guess it's mostly for me as it makes me feel better. 

However, when I do "let myself go" (not washing hair, no make up, ugly around the house clothes, etc.) it never fails someone is calling to inquire if they can stop over, the door bell rings and when I look out my peephole it's someone I know, or I run into neighbors when I go out to get the mail, etc.

When I was very young I worked as a teller in a bank and this very good looking man used to come to my window.  He made me blush. All the girls at work had a thing for him. He wore beautiful suits and nice cologne, when men wore gold bracelets, nice haircuts and he had a good job too!

One day I went to the grocery store when I was recovering from the flu and there he was in the dairy aisle!  I had just run in for a few things, no makeup and still coughing from the flu. Ugh,  saw him too late so I couldnt hide and said Oh i've been so sick with the flu (to give a reason why I looked bad) I was so embarrassed. The one time I would have liked to look great because he was hot stuff! maybe I could have gotten a date! ( since it was outside of work)

That sounds familiar.  Yesterday I accompanied DH to the hospital for his chest x-ray and EKG.  I put some effort in as I got myself ready - fresh outfit, makeup, fixed my hair, perfume - all to just sit there and wait while he did his thing.  Then we had a 10 minute trip to Aldi and back home, where I immediately changed into pj's and did my PM skincare.  

This morning, I was getting ready to go to a dental appointment.  I showered & washed my hair, did skincare, got dressed, did makeup, and just as I took the towel off my head our power went out. 😳  I had no choice but to slick my hair behind my ears.   I went outside to try and dry the bangs a little and fluff them up but it was humid and they're overgrown (getting a trim tomorrow) so the best I could do was tease them, smooth them, and add hairspray.  Not my best look but they took care of me and accepted my credit card anyway.  LOL

Oh, BTW, we have several of those Ryobi power source thingies.  FYI - they don't work on small appliances.  What's the point of having them then?!? 😡
