@Bird mama I forgot to say that when I went back out to move the pot into the shade, it was a huge, deep pot, the owl was gone so I looked and found it behind the pot in the shade. When the guy got here, he found it about four feet from the pot, so maybe there is hope, I will never know, and I will worry for some time. Did I mention that we first saw a mouse, wobbly, so think the parent dropped it for the baby and it was dazed.
This is the third baby owl I have rescued, the other two, siblings, one week apart, were all fluff, but when the girl got here and picked it up, the wing span was amazing for such a little bird. As it turned out, the one that was injured had been take to my Vet, who took care of all sorts of animals whereas most will only care for domestic.
There had been very tall old pine trees over the garbage area where the nest was, as I used to look through binoculars to see the babies in the nest. The trees fell during a storm.
DH woke me up one morning because before he got into his car to go to work, he stopped at the garbage cans and found the one baby, with half eater mice. A week later, I was awoken with, "you won't believe this," and he had found the sibling, this one was injured. I was able to take pictures of both while waiting for Wildlife Rescue.
