LOL....it seems like everyday is a new adventure here.  I am looking for the skunks because I love the way the babies are hidden underneath the mama's tail as she is walking.  I find it very difficult to get any work done because I am always looking out the window to see what nature has to offer.

DH's desk in our office faces out the windows so he can see what is going on without even getting up out of his desk chair.  I on the other hand have my back to it all so I am constantly getting up to see what is going on.  I consider it exercise...lol.

@luvsbulldogs  LOL!

Hi mousiegirl how is the gardening going?  We are in a drought here and even though we have a well we have to be very careful with the use of our water.  We had to let the lawns go brown but are rotating the watering of the shrubs and flowers.  Had to turn the irrigation system completely off.  We had the same thing happen last Summer.  Did you get everything that you mentioned planted?

@luvsbulldogs  We will be planting for years, lol.  I did get a lot potted, no planting until Sundays as everything requires a wire basket due to gophers, so DH makes those.

Re water use, I am always under my allotment, so I have a "bank" of water so says the water company.  Our lawn disappeared over ten years ago due to droughts and gophers, so I have winding paths which I lay pine needles on, and it works for me. Smiley Happy

I just realized the other day that I have quite a few pigs, garden and inside, so I will take pictures of them and post them here one day.

I do remember the planting never ending at our other house so I know exactly what you mean.  Great idea with the pine needle paths.  We have a lot of trees but where the house is there are none,.  The back of the house has the mountain views and the pond so no trees there either.  As far as plants, flowers and shrubs go the critters, especially the deer eat everything.  We can't even have a veggie garden.  We and neighbors have tried to no avail.  If you fence it in a lot of critters dig there way under and get in and eat it all.  I guess you can't have it all as they say!

Years back I collected pigs and had a lot both inside and outside.  I still have a few on the screened in porch and also in our office.  In this house I have snowmen scattered around but not a lot like I did pigs.  The decor in this house is totally different.

I would love to see pics. of your pigs!  Thanks mousiegirl.

@luvsbulldogs  Chicken wire, small holed, can be laid in an area to keep critters out.  We did this when I had three rabbit condos and runs, had to keep them in there, all were spayed and neutered. Smiley Happy

The chicken wire does work miracles in a garden. You can also use it to ward off the animals that come from underground. i.e. gophers. I have done that - you have to dig anyway so dig put in the  chicken wire and plant  your stuff - works like a charm. My Dad also did it all the time and he planted strawberries several years and learned the hard way they disappear the minute the fruit shows up. His strawberry field - so to speak - was covered in chicken wire and it is easy to water. Nothing got those berries after his first year.  You can also buy from nurseries the things you put in the ground if you are planting larger things they are like chicken wire pots. Easier and cheaper however to just dig a trench and put down chicken wire.  Of course I do not plant anything these days - too old and just cannot do it.

Bird bath is empty - I think the little boy emptied it and no one monitors him outside very well - except me. Shannon just lets him do what he wants and then screams and yells about it but she provides no guidance at the time. Geesh.

Got a lot of things to do. I put the cats out - they have not been out in their condo for over a week and I was going nuts. Just too darn hot for them. Will bring them in about noon or so but it is very nice out now and they can handle it. By noon it will be near 100 if not that or above. Wish it would stay just like it is but that sun - now that it is out in full force - will heat everything up out there. Too hot for the furbaby felines. Even Conrad has to be encouraged to go outside for a few minutes and tend to business - he HATES this heat. Cannot blame him.

Have a good day everyone.

@mousiegirl and @Winifred

Thanks for the advice about using chicken wire.  We tried it several years ago just for a veggie garden both above and below the ground and we think the bear got into the garden because it pushed and flattened it down and wiped out the garden.  After that DH and I gave up.  We have a farm right down the road from us that sells all their own grown veggies and so we go there now.  As far as the shrubs around the house it would not look too good all around the house and that is the only place we have shrubs on the property.  I might just consider trying a veggie garden again though and will start small.

Winifred, I hope it cools down for you!  Nothing to me at least is worse than humidity!  We left NJ almost 40 years ago and moved here.  We usually saw humidity for about 2 weeks in July and that was it. The last couple of years we too have been getting a lot of humidity.

@luvsbulldogs  How do the farmers keep the bears out, barbed wire fencing?

Good question.  Most of the farms around here have nothing around their farming area other than some things that look like scarecrows.

One of our neighbors had a huge garden for many years and lately he told us that everything is getting eaten.  This year he put up some sort of 4 ft. fencing so we shall see.    DD has had bears go right on over her chain link fencing and leave dents or a bent fence.  I have noticed that the farms have their produce growing very close to the road so maybe that is the answer.....not sure.

Last year we tried planting tomatoes in huge containers and the critters never got them but huge green worms destryed the plants and we even sprayed them.  Last year the neighbor had them too.
