Your DH sure is a handy guy to have around.  I have to clean my own dryer vent!

Glad the weather is nice enough for you to get your walk in today.  It was almost decent for a few minutes here this morning, but now it's back to miserably hot, humid, and trying to rain.

It's been raining gently on and off all day.  I did the grocery shopping later this morning and was surprised that it wasn't crowded.  It's currently 67 degrees and the house is comfortable with all of the windows closed.  I didn't want to let the humidity in

Because that thread is fairly active with lots of participants, I hope you don't mind @viva923  that I am providing a summary of your update here.

Viva's daughter called her this morning.  The kids miss their dad and Viva's DD had her hands full with them this past weekend.

SIL weight increased 3-4 pounds over the weekend; he's retaining some water and based on DD doesn't think there is cause for alarm.

SIL doctors had huge powwow with SIL.  It appears that he is missing a chromosome which is contributing to SIL health issues.  This chromosomal thing tends to happen in redheads.

Viva's daughter is going to reach out to her kid's doctor to let the doctor know about this chromosomal thing.  Daughter wants to know if this is something that the children should be tested for.

Okay this is Bernie talking.   As a natural redhead I've always been interested in what made me a redhead versus other family members.

Here's some information from the Calgary Herald about genetics in redheads.  Per Dr. Peter Nieman......

"From a medical perspective, red-haired individuals have kept scientists, and particularly geneticists, very busy — especially since 2000 when the genetics of having red hair revealed a gene known as the melanocortin1 receptor gene (MC1R). A mutation of this gene leads to having red hair.

Red-haired people have an abundant amount of a pigment pheomelanin. These individuals tend to hold on to their hair pigment longer than the rest of us and it is extremely uncommon for them to turn grey as they age.

Although we tend to look at outward appearances first, people with red hair have significant internal differences as a result of their MC1R mutation: they are far more prone to get skin cancer/melanoma; they have a different temperature tolerance; Parkinsonism is more likely to occur later in life; they may bleed more easily during surgery; endometriosis is also more common; red-haired men are more prone to getting prostate cancer; the endogenous production of Vitamin D is superior to those who have brown, blond or black hair; dentists and anesthesiologists agree that red-haired people need 20 per cent more lidocaine to anesthetize their pain. (Red-haired people are twice as likely as others to avoid the dentist due to fear of pain).

Children who have red hair are more prone to getting sunburn and they find it harder to tan. They are also more prone to freckles, but their fair skin may work to their advantage in terms of vitamin D metabolism (sunshine on naked skin assists with our Vitamin D production).

We know that the further north we live from the equator, the less sun exposure we receive, especially during long winter months. It becomes very common for our vitamin D levels to fall. Anthropologically, the genes of some individuals may have mutated to compensate — thus explaining why red-haired children are more commonly found further away from the equator.

A Harvard study in 2013 raised concerns that red-haired individuals are significantly more prone to skin cancer. Because many families in Canada take a break from the protracted bleak winter environment by visiting sunny destinations, it is wise to remind those with red hair to be extra cautious with sun exposure. The mechanism by which skin cancer occurs in red-haired people is rather complex when looked at from a genetic perspective. Due to their MC1R mutation, they have a reduced ability to activate other genetic markers that protect against cancer.

The role of MC1R in pain regulation involves a complex interaction of hormones and chemical substances in the brain and peripheral tissues. A number of landmark NIH-sponsored studies conducted by anesthesiologists and other researchers have consistently shown that red-haired individuals have different sensitivities to pain and temperatures. Childbirth and visits to the dentist can be particularly challenging unless the appropriate pain control is utilized."

As a natural redhead with fair skin....I don't think it's rocket science that we gingers burn in the sun without sunscreen.  I'm fortunate in that I have a high tolerance for pain.  I can testify that gingers need more anesthesia.  I woke up and I mean wide awake woke up during oral surgery, knee surgery and a breast biopsy.  I'm not encouraged to read about the higher incidence of Parkinson's in gingers however I can't change my genetics.

I wouldn't be surprised if they found another genetic irregularity in redheads.

Finley was 3 years old when she became part of my flock.  Today marks 2 years since landed on my patio and therefore I celebrate her 5th birthday today.

Hi Birding Friends,   My granddaughter and her family are still here so I haven't been getting onto my computer much if at all.   Lost power due to severe storms on Friday night and had no electricity, alarm system, phone service, etc for about 16 hours.    Parts of our area had lots of storm damage from 70mph winds, hail and we all got flooding rains.  4-5 inches here since Friday and it's sprinkling outside now.  

I was so afraid of losing all of the foods in my fridge, I didn't open the door at all till the power came back on late Saturday afternoon.   Only lit one candle for a while as I was afraid Moose would get curious about it and knock it off onto the floor/rug and cause a fire.  Even worse catch his furry coat on fire.    Had to charge my phone in the car.   

My granddaughter has had a severe kidney stone problem, ambulance ride to hospital in middle of the night.   They are staying over for a few days so she can have Lithotripsy done on Thursday.   If they'd gone back to Fort Sill, OK  yesterday as first planned, she'd have had to start the whole process over, seeing her PC, getting a referral to see a specialist, tests etc.  plus drive to Oklahoma City for most of that stuff and that's at least an hour's drive from their home, one way.
