I was listening to Joel Osteen's sermon this morning. I find some of his sermons inspirational and helpful.
This morning he went on about expecting good things in the year ahead.
Then he said, "This is your year, 2015. Expect good things in your life."
I was so disappointed to know that this sermon was a year old. Someone told me that all of his programs on Sunday on TV are old and not recent.
That just disappointed me especially this time of year. 2015 was not a good year for me.

It would help if they scrolled a message saying "this message was first broadcast on......"

Hot Street I am sorry that you were disspointed with Joel's sermon being from last year and this year being a difficult year for you. Just wanted to with you the best. Take care.

I usually get a real lift from one of his messages as well. I heard the same show that you did this morning, and while I have to admit I was doing other things, and not totally focused on the message, I was taken back by a couple of phrases he used.
I understand what the message was meant to mean, but I just didn't care for what seemed to me to be him saying that we could change what He would/could do for us, based on our having expectations of getting what we want/need from Him. I'm kind of paraphrasing here, but the feeling and impression I got wasn't sitting right with me.
Maybe it was just my lack of total attention, or something, but I wasn't as uplifted as usual.

How disappointing. Not a fresh message, a stale one. Is it possible he mis-spoke?
Sometimes I appreciate his positive message altho' I rarely watch.

I believe G-d helps those who help themselves and I'm all for the power of positive thinking. I wouldn't let an old sermon affect my day, ever.

I saw an interview he did a couple of years ago - it might have been with Charlie Rose (not sure) but he questioned his very extravagant lifestyle and his answer was "God never said he wanted me to be poor" with that big grin on his face. That did it for me!

I am not a fan of the Prosperity Gospel.

A few months ago, I remember the gospel where a very rich young man wanted to know what else he could do to merit the kingdom of heaven. He was told to give all his belongings to the poor and follow Him.
He could not do that and left. I wonder if Joel forgot that Bible passage ??? I wonder if I have given enough: time, treasure and talent....
