If you ask me, Joel Olsteen is not much of a preacher in the true sense of the word. He is more of a "motivational speaker". He's just always telling people to be happy and rarely ever quotes biblical scripture.

I was just going to type the same thing!

I really like and have for many years, dr. stanley, IN TOUCH, i was lucky to meet him.

I too have followed and contributed to Dr. Stanley's ministry for years.  Love the free monthly devotional that the ministry sends to anyone, regardless of whether they contribute or not.   Many times we hear the words from scripture but don't know how to apply it to our own lives; Dr. Stanley helps me do just that.

It is so true:disappointment and trouble happens to be a part of life; all the positive statements in the world don't change that fact.but it is a positive thing to know that God will walk through all of them with us.if we trust Him.

OT: Mega churches is all about the $. Look what the pastors/leader has. Mansions, luxury cars, yachts. If it was about G-d, then they would be living the simple life.

Not sure if Joel still owns this mansion.

Re: Joel Osteen - Disappointed

I had no idea. I poked around a bit, and they all live in mansions. A trust owns Joel's mansion, it's not in his name.

Interestingly, Joel does not draw a salary from Lakewood. The law says that these evangelists cannot benefit from the money they raise, but they can keep the money they get from books, calendars, etc. That explains why Joyce Meyer writes so many books!

Who's the trust?  Even if they don't own it under their name, they still don't need to live in these huge mansions etc.. The congregation doesn't for the most part.

I saw an interview he did a couple of years ago - it might have been with Charlie Rose (not sure) but he questioned his very extravagant lifestyle and his answer was "God never said he wanted me to be poor" with that big grin on his face.  That did it for me!

LOL  Yes, he's always seemed to me a snake oil salesman.

The first time I've ever heard that.  I do know this is true of a few but not necessarily for others.  .I have found those who don't receive a salary will tell you this fact outright.
